Police officers on Tuesday arrested a private citizen linked to the shooting of two people in Mombasa on Tuesday during anti-government protests. The private firearm holder was cornered by the detectives after a spirited manhunt. This was after reports narrowed down on him as the culprit behind the shootings which occurred in Ganjoni, Mombasa County at noon. "Following unfortunate shooting at Ganjoni area of Mombasa by a civilian firearm holder that left some persons injured, the said shooter has since been arrested, disarmed, and placed in custody," the DCI stated. The DPP noted that the call for a probe stemmed from the loss of lives, and the destruction and vandalism of private and public property.

Police have fired teargas along Waiyaki Way as they clashed with youths who are pelting stones in their direction. In a video seen by the Star, there is dark smoke billowing along the road, near the Kangemi area. Youths can be seen pelting stones as crowds gather on a flyover as they block the road with stones. Police can be seen firing teargas at the protesters, who have joined others in some parts of the country for the demonstration on Tuesday. Elsewhere along Mombasa Road, youths are seen dancing on the highway at Mlolongo in protest.

Protesters on Tuesday showed up with over 10 caskets in the Nairobi Central Business District. The protesters were seen carrying the brown caskets as they lined them up in the CBD. As they moved away from the police, they carried the caskets as they covered them with Kenyan Flags. Some officers could be seen putting the caskets in a truck as the protesters returned them to the road. Others went ahead to open the caskets as they clashed with the police who were throwing teargas to disperse the youth.

Tens of thousands of claimants of the Personal Independence Payment could face an agonising wait of up to a decade for their awards to be reviewed and potentially uplifted. According to Benefits and Work, currently, a whopping 74,000 claimants are on lower PIP than they should be receiving.
