Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking during a TV interview, Kuria said: “I don’t agree with the deputy president because we were elected by people to solve their issues. “Gachagua should be respected as the Deputy President and as the leader of Mt Kenya, because he is the region’s kingpin,” said Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga last year. Tongues began wagging about the DP’s hidden hand, when Kahiga, Gachagua’s key ally appeared to support the Limuru 111 meeting, saying leaders from Mt Kenya should be free to meet. “When Mt Kenya leaders meet to talk, you will start to hear people complaining but when Luhyas do so, no one complains.

The LIV Golf player - who enters today's final at Valhalla one-under and tied for 69th - surprised everyone by mentioning his wife at a press conference held at Oak Hill Country Club in 2023. Going in, I was going out to play Saudi International, and I tweaked my back right before that. It's just taken me a while to get back, get the patterns right, and just get my body moving right.

President William Ruto and former primier Raila Odinga at Yoweri Museveni's Kisozi farm in Uganda, February 2024. [PCS]The Kenya Kwanza leadership should not use its support for Raila Odinga's bid for the coveted chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC) to gag him. The two leaders' demand that Raila must remain loyal to President Ruto if he wanted the Head of State to continue supporting his AUC chairmanship bid, was unacceptable. Raila's bid is not and should not be pegged on his loyalty to the President, but on his own qualifications to serve in that office. Fortunately, the President has not attached any conditions, including total loyalty as advocated by Ichung'wah and Cheruiyot, to his support for Raila.

Albertina says she saw 50 helicopters fly over the roof of her house before a boat finally rescued her family. Many people are still stranded, or in some cases are choosing not to leave because they are afraid their flooded homes will be robbed. We join the military firefighters in one helicopter rescue operation to pick up an 89-year-old woman who has had a stroke and take her to a hospital. “With people dying in the waters, dogs dying, horses dying, everyone dying in the water - that’s what we didn’t want. On the ground, volunteers from around the country - not just firefighters, military, police and doctors - try by any means to continue delivering aid to those trapped in flooded homes.

South Africa's new uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party is aiming to win a parliamentary majority in a May 29 election so that it can implement reforms without resistance from opponents, former President Jacob Zuma said on Saturday. Speaking in Zulu at the Orlando Stadium in South Africa's biggest township Soweto, Zuma promised to provide free education for disadvantaged children, create jobs and fight corruption. Zuma told the crowd he had no choice but to stay in politics because other elected officials did not care about improving people's lives.
