MONROVIA – FrontPageAfrica has obtained a copy of the Joint Resolution from the Legislature mandating the Central Bank of Liberia to print a new family of Liberian dollar with new designs and features and a L$1,000 denomination. The Central Bank was also instructed to get rid of the L$10 and L$5 banknotes. The Legislature also gave the Central Bank of Liberia the mandate to ensure that the printing of the banknotes and minting of coins are undertaken during 2021, 2022 and 2024 to respond to future liquidity in 2024. The Central Bank contends that L$100 banknotes was selected for an emergency sole-sourcing procurement which sample design is being replicated all other banknotes including the 20s, 50s, 500s and 1,000s. The Central Bank of Liberia noted that the printing of new banknotes was informed by a request from the Legislature for the introduction of a new family of currency – banknotes and coins.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) over the weekend announced a 22-man squad that has been named by Liberia senior men’s national team head coach Peter Butler. Butler named three uncapped players in his new squad for the final World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Central African Republic (CAR). The new intivees include Watanga FC goalkeeper Derrick Julu and defenders Mark Pabai of PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands and Jamal Arago of Sabail FK in Azerbaijan. Arago, according to the LFA, featured for the Black Satellites during the qualifiers for the 2013 Africa Youth Championship but didn't make the final squad due to injury. In a final declaration following Sunday's summit, ECOWAS said it "highly deplores the lack of progress" towards staging elections in Mali. At a September summit, ECOWAS demanded that Guinea hold elections within six months. The regional leaders also demanded that the Mali junta adhere "strictly" to that country's transition timetable. ECOWAS suspended Mali once again, but did not apply new sanctions.

Mr. Taylor said, as the 22nd President of Liberia, he is entitled to pension and other benefits as specified in the country’s Act to the retirement pension of the President and Vice President of Liberia which was promulgated by Liberia’s parliament in 2003. The Act also provides that the surviving spouse of a former president shall be entitled to receive annuity equal to fifty percent of the pension received by the former President. In addition, the surviving spouse of the former president shall be entitled to a personal staff and facilities for the remainder of her life. This allowance shall commence as of the date of the death of the Former President, according to the act. On the death of the surviving spouse or if there is no surviving spouse, the pension provided for a surviving spouse shall be paid in equal portions to each of his/her minor children of the deceased President.

Monrovia — The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and three Civil Society Organizations – CENTAL, Accountability Lab Liberia and Integrity Watch Liberia, with support from UNDP and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), will launch an Anti-Corruption Innovation Project on 26 October 2021 at the Ministerial Complex in Monrovia. The Project intends to build partnership between the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with specialized and long-term experiences in corruption prevention. The party and the government, through the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) have been caught in rigmarole, making claims and counter claims over the saga. The party took the matter to the Supreme Court of Liberia, and the government has denied initially issuing a permit for the helicopter to land into the country. “LCAA notes that at no time did Kwenyan & Associates Group of Company request for landing permit to the LCAA for which, they filed a writ of Prohibition. The party emphasized that for Liberia to remain stable and foster forward, fundamental democratic values must remain adhered to and never violated or compromised. Associate Justice Yussif D. Kabba ordered the LCAA to allow the aircraft to land in Liberia pending the October 20th, 2021, court hearing.

The controversial Bao Chico mining agreement, which is before the Senate for ratification, has received backing from Senators Numene Bartekwa and Simeon Taylor. The Bao Chico deal is expected to bring in an annual social contribution of US$300,000 and, after five years, escalate to US$500,000 until the end of the term. Since then, the iron ore concession – the area where the ore mining was done – only boasts of idle machines gathering rust. The Mineral Exploration of the entity is owned by Bao Chico Resources, Liberia Ltd., which is 100% owned by Bao Chico Resources.
