A fishing boat with 573 migrants landed on Lampedusa, Italy on Monday after being rescued off the island by Coast Guard patrol boats, Italian ANSA News reported. The boat had departed from Libya, according to ANSA. The group, which includes four women and two minors, was taken to Lampedusa’s migrant hotspot. As of November 21, 150,777 migrants and refugees have arrived in Italy by sea since the start of the year, up 60% over the same period in 2022 according to interior ministry figures. Of the arrivals, around 70% have landed on Lampedusa.

The Attorney General’s Office reported Saturday that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the detention, pending trial, of the Financial Affairs Control official in the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG). The detainee is accused of illegal profits, deliberately submitting official documents that were falsely attributed to the PFG, issuance of bank cheques that he used when paying the price of twenty-three motor vehicles that he deliberately seized and collecting LD 5.68 million six hundred and eighty thousand dinars from the PFG’s funds.

LNA source stressed: “We communicated our position to the UN envoy in our last meeting with him in Benghazi, and we were informed of his acceptance of adding representatives of the Libyan Government” (the Parliament-appointed government, led by Osama Hammad). The Ministry of the Interior of the Government of National Unity has approved a plan of security measures for a conference for Sahel countries which will be held today and on 28 November in Tripoli and will see the participation of the labor ministers of the Sahel and Sahara countries.
