A forum representing political parties and forces in Libya and the Committee of 90 have stressed the need to have a unified executive authority to provide the necessary conditions conducive to holding elections in the country. In a statement issued yesterday, the political forces called on the Libyan Presidential Council to prepare legal arrangements to freeze the work of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State in the event that they fail to formulate consensual laws for holding elections. In their statement, the political forces indicated the need to form a legislative body to supervise the electoral process in Libya, including the necessary legislation in the event that the Presidential Council fails to take steps to freeze the House of Representatives and the State Supreme Council. Former trade unionist Sammy Meilaq has authored a new set of memoirs focusing on his militancy alongside former Labour prime ministers Dom Mintoff and Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici in the eurosceptic organisation Front Maltin Inqumu. Meilaq’s book – ‘L-Aħħar Testment ta’ Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici – Dnubiet u Profeziji’ – published on the 11th anniversary from the death of Mintoff on 20 August, collects ideas on the political thought of Mintoff and Mifsud Bonnici on the European Union, and Malta’s international relations. “It’s not a historical chronicle of the organization,” Meilaq says. The final chapter is a critical epilogue penned by lecturer Michael Grech on the book itself. The book will be on sale from most bookshops.

London: Perhaps the only thing we should be surprised about is that it took this long. The assumed demise of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the mercenary leader who mounted the greatest challenge to Vladimir Putin’s authority in two decades during a short-lived mutiny in Russia in June, was shocking but not a shock. We should not shed a tear for Prigozhin and we should never forget how Putin treats those who pose a threat to him. Poisonings, detainment, torture, disappearances, falls from windows, and now, probably, a plane shot from the sky. Putin, an ex-KGB officer, has maintained that the one thing he can’t forgive is betrayal.

So we are very concerned about the development in the Sahel in general and, of course, in Sudan.”United Nations YouTube Channel

It is fundamental to restore Libya’s stability to preserve regional security, the top UN envoy for the country said. Upholding Libya’s stability is even more critical now in light of the latest events, including the recent clashes in Tripoli, as well as the regional turmoil in Sudan and Niger, said Abdoulaye Bathily, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, on Tuesday. In his briefing to the Security Council, Bathily reiterated that all elections-related issues in Libya should be resolved through discussions and compromises between all relevant actors. Citizens yearn for unified political, military, security, economic and social institutions to safeguard the territorial integrity and the national identity of the country, he added. “In that regard, a unified government, agreed upon by the major players, is an imperative for leading the country to elections,” said Bathily.

Turks and Russians are troublemakers in Europe and Libya is a North African example of that mischief. The Libyan National Oil Corporation has restored normal oil production levels of 1.2 million BPD (barrels per day) and seeks to increase it to two million BPD by 2027. The Ukrainians received major support from NATO nations that enabled Ukrainian forces to go on the offensive in mid-2023. Libya hired Deloitte, a major Western financial services firm, to assist with the reunification. Most other major cities in Libya have one faction or another in control of the city.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Libya’s stability is at greater risk following recent militia clashes and amid turmoil in neighboring Sudan and Niger that could spill over into the oil-rich North African nation, the country’s U.N. special envoy said Tuesday. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield condemned the fighting between militias in Tripoli and said instability in Sudan and Niger could spiral into wider violence. As for Niger, Bathily said, like other countries in Africa’s Sahel region, it has been affected by the crisis in Libya. Some Nigeriens have joined mercenaries in Libya, and armed elements in Niger are active along the border. If the Niger army breaks up, Bathily said, “the destabilization of Niger will undoubtedly have consequences on Libya, and vice versa.”

Fighters from Mohamed Hamdan Daglo’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began their assault on the vast strategic base on several fronts on Sunday. Residents of Al-Shajara, the neighborhood where the base is situated, reported “large losses on both sides” on the first day of the attack when the fighting was constant. The army led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan has put out several statements and videos saying it has repelled the RSF attacks. The bodies of many people caught in crossfire have also not been able to be recovered. UN coordinator for humanitarian affairs Martin Griffiths late Tuesday again pleaded for both parties to stop fighting so aid could get through.
