BEIJING: Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Gen Li Shangfu said that the military cooperation between China and Pakistan is delivering high-level performance, with close high-level exchanges and constantly improved cooperation mechanisms. “The cooperation between the Chinese and Pakistani air forces has yielded fruitful results. In his opening remarks, Gen Li Shangfu noted that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners and iron-clad friends. “Chinese President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the relations between China and Pakistan and has provided overall guidance for the growth of bilateral relations”, he added. The first official meeting for coordination between Libya’s Privatization and Investment Board (PIB) and the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency was held in Nicosia, Cyprus last Monday. The meeting was held at the Libyan embassy in Nicosia in the presence of the Ambassador of Libya in Cyprus. It included representatives of Libya’s General Authority for Exhibitions, the (Benghazi) Elmreisa Free Zone (EFZ), and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce. During his address to the National Assembly, PTI women senators demanded an apology from Khawaja Asif regarding his comments. Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s remarks about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) women lawmakers created a furor in the National Assembly. The federal minister referred to PTI women senators as ‘garbage’ and ‘remains’ of PTI in the senate.
Mohamed Al-Menfi, chairman of Libya’s Presidential Council, has arrived in St. Petersburg to participate in the Russia-Africa summit starting today and tomorrow, Russia’S state-owned news agency TAAS reports. Upon his arrival to the summit’s venue, Al-Menfi was welcomed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The goal of the event is to “promote efforts to strengthen comprehensive and equal cooperation between Russia and African nations across all areas of society including politics, security, economic relations, science and technology, and the cultural and humanitarian spheres,” according to declaration made on the summit’s website. The first Russia-Africa Summit was held on 23–24 October 2019 in Sochi, Russia, co-hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. 43 heads of state or government were in attendance.
PESHAWAR: Hours after the Peshawar High Court (PHC) instructed authorities to immediately release him, PTI leader Ali Mohammad Khan was on Thursday set free from Mardan jail after nearly 80 days of incarceration. Confirming his release, Ali Mohammad’s lawyer Shehryar Khattak told media that the PTI leader had departed for his village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hathian. According to his lawyer, the former MNA was arrested eight times and kept behind bars for 80 days. However, immediately after the court granted his release, Ali Mohammad was re-arrested under 3-MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) for one week on the orders of the Mardan deputy commissioner. Earlier today, the PHC directed authorities to immediately release Ali Mohammad after his lawyer approached the court for bail.
Almost 800 irregular migrants drowned off Tunisia in the first half of this year as they tried to reach Europe by boat, a National Guard spokesman told AFP Thursday. “789 bodies of migrants were recovered from the sea, including 102 Tunisians, the others foreigners and unidentified people,” said Houcem Eddine Jebabli, adding that more than 34,000 were rescued. The North African country has become a major gateway for irregular migrants and asylum-seekers attempting the perilous sea voyage in often rickety boats in the hope of a better life in Europe. The distance between Tunisia, near its second city of Sfax, and the Italian island of Lampedusa is about 130 kilometres (80 miles), and the sea voyages pick up in the summer months. Between January 1 and June 20, a total of 34,290 migrants were intercepted and rescued, sharply up from 9,217 over the same period of last year, Jebabli said.

Around the same time, Libyan border guards also said they rescued dozens of migrants left in the desert by Tunisian authorities without water and food.
Tripoli – Libya’s oil production showed signs of further recovery, according to figures released by the National Oil Corporation (NOC) on Thursday. The NOC stated that the North African nation’s crude output reached 1.208 million barrels per day over the past 24 hours. Additionally, condensate production hit 49,000 bpd during the same period. The NOC continues to stress its political neutrality, stating that Libya’s oil belongs to all Libyans. However, its efforts to revive production have been impacted by funding shortfalls and divided governance.

CAIRO - 27 July 2023: Trade exchange between Egypt and African countries grew by 14.4 percent on an annual basis during 2022, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Thursday. The trade volume between Egypt and African countries reached $8.6 billion in 2022, compared to $7.5 billion in 2021. This growth in trade exchange between Egypt and Africa was supported by an increase in Egyptian exports, which grew by 14 percent during 2022, reaching $6.3 billion. On the other hand, Egypt's imports from African countries rose to $2.3 billion during 2022, with an annual growth of 15.4 percent. The Congo topped the list of African Union countries exporting to Egypt in 2022, with Egypt's imports from the Congo valued at $524 million, followed by Sudan with $504 million, then Zambia with about $314 million, Kenya with about $308 million, and South Africa with $133 million.
Hundreds of African migrants expelled from Tunisia have been stranded in the border area, facing dire conditions and lacking food, water and shelter. Most hail from sub-Saharan nations and were expelled following clashes in the Tunisian town of Sfax between migrants and locals after the death of a Tunisian youth. “We cannot accept that Tunisia becomes a country of transit or settlement for sub-Saharan African migrants,” said Tunisian Interior Minister Kamel Al-Fakih in remarks to parliament on Wednesday. TRIPOLI (Reuters) - The United Nations Libya mission warned on Thursday against "unilateral initiatives" to address the country's political stalemate after two legislative bodies proposed creating a new interim government as a precursor to elections. "Unilateral actions, like similar attempts seen in the past, could inflict serious negative consequences for Libya and trigger further instability and violence," the U.N. mission said in a statement noting the legislative bodies' proposals. An effort by the HoR to appoint a new government last year led to a day of heavy fighting in Tripoli. The bodies have instead announced a separate roadmap that would involve replacing Dbeibah's government before any move towards the national elections that would replace them.
