Director General of the agency, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed, on Tuesday, received the distressed returnees on arrival at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. The D-G, who was represented by the Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said: “The Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG, arrived at the airport late on Tuesday. “Upon profiling of the returnees, the number of female adults was 62, including a medical case, female children were 12, and five infant females. The number of adult males was 64 with seven male children and nine infant males, making a total of 159 altogether.”Almost every month, NEMA has been receiving stranded Nigerians from Libya and the number keeps swelling.

The spokesman Libyan NationalArmy, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, stated that the LNA forces from the Southwest Security Operations Room raided a hideout of extremist militants in the area. The raid on extremists took place in the far southwest, specifically in the south of the Qatroun region, near the Libyan-Chadian border, Al-Mismari said in a statement on Wednesday. Al-Mismari confirmed that the armed forces units succeeded in the operation without any losses of its members, and that a group of takfiris were eliminated and two were captured. The LNA forces also found light and medium weapons, ammunition, and two desert SUVs, he added.

Over the past years, the overarching political processes pushed under the UN’s aegis in Libya were characterized by differing dynamics and leadership styles. For instance, the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) and its roadmap reshuffled Libya’s executive and placed Libya on a staggered electoral path in early 2021. However, a key takeaway is that each phase saw Libyan elites, spoilers, or stakeholders position themselves to maximize their chances at political relevance and longevity. Libyan elites’ perceived space and ability to spoil processes were often positively associated with the levels of international disunity they observed. For all the drawbacks of the LPDF, it did achieve one of the most significant shifts in Libya’s political landscape in recent years.
