Only one Nigerian football club, Rivers United, remain in the hunt for a continental title. The Stanley Eguma-led side progressed to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage with a 6-1 aggregate victory over Libyan side Al Nasr SC on Wednesday night. The Port Harcourt-based side drew 1-1 with Al Nasr SC, after taking a 5-0 into the second leg. After a barren half hour, Al Nasr broke the deadlock through Abdulsalam Al Fitouri who went past Rivers United’s goalkeeper, Seidu Mutawakilu, in the 39th minute but Rivers United cancelled the lead with Nyima Nwagua’s strike in the 57th minute. Before Rivers United took to the pitch, their compatriots, Plateau United, suffered an embarrassing loss to another Libyan opponent, Al Akhdar.

United Nations published this video item, entitled “Libya: lack of belief in justice & peace but not “mission impossible”-ICC Security Council Briefing” – below is their description. There is this sentiment that we heard it all before: “What is the international community doing? What is the ICC doing? This strengthened the office’s ability to address practical, logistical, and security challenges associated with the investigation in a flexible manner.”United Nations YouTube Channel

The row centers on the Ocean Viking, a charity ship that has sailed away from Sicilian waters toward France after unsuccessfully waiting for permission to dock in Italy since late October. Italian leaders have claimed that France is ready to accept the migrants, but Paris has warned that the ship was in Italian waters and branded the refusal to let her dock "unacceptable". It did not single out Italy or France by name, but noted the "clear and unequivocal" legal obligation to rescue distressed persons at sea. In June, around a dozen EU countries, including France, agreed to take in migrants who arrive in Italy and other main entry points. So far this year, 164 asylum seekers have been moved from Italy to other nations in the bloc that have volunteered to accept them.

Nigerian club Plateau United crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday with a late collapse in Libya costing them a group place. Berkane, who reached three of the last four Confederation Cup finals and won two, were held 0-0 by Tunisian visitors US Monastir and lost the tie 1-0 on aggregate. November 9, 2022 — Tripoli (AFP)The International Criminal Court's chief prosecutor said Wednesday he had urged eastern Libyan military chief Khalifa Haftar to "prevent" crimes by his troops, as investigations into their actions continue. Karim Khan, the first ICC prosecutor to visit the war-torn country in a decade, arrived in Libya on Saturday. "I said that those were and are being investigated, (and) that military commanders must prevent, must repress and must punish crimes when they emerge." The Kaniyat allied with Haftar during his year-long offensive on Tripoli, but after he retreated in mid-2020, residents began discovering bodies. Before taking over as the ICC's lead prosecutor, Karim Khan defended Seif al-Islam Kadhafi, son of slain dictator Moamer Kadhafi, whose arrest the ICC is seeking for "crimes against humanity".

I would like to start by thanking the Prosecutor Khan for his 24th Report and for briefing us today on the work of the Office. I am pleased to note the Office of the Prosecutor has accelerated its investigative and cooperation activities under the renewed strategy outlined in the previous report. The report also highlights the increased support received from the Libyan authorities, including from the Office of the President of the Presidential Council of Libya ahead of the Prosecutor’s visit to Tripoli at present. We encourage the Libyan authorities to build on this and to take the key steps outlined in the report to increase further cooperation. In conclusion Madam President, I underline that the UK remains committed to working with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Libyan authorities, and urge them to build on the momentum that we’ve heard of today and accelerate progress towards justice for the victims.

The uprising in Libya that ended Muammar al-Qaddafi’s long reign in 2011 was supposed to provide a path to stability. Instead, the country descended into civil war, with regional powers vying for influence and resources. But while official negotiations have stalled, one peace group decided this summer to bring opponents together in Norway, where they would try to find a way forward. The group, Together We Build It, has been working on peace and security issues since 2011, in part by engaging more women and young Libyans in the process. While the Norway talks were held largely behind closed doors, reporter Amira Karaoud attended the conference and interviewed the participants.

The Minister of Planning and Finance in the Libyan Government, Osama Hammad, sent a letter to Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, confirming that he had initiated a lawsuit against the Prime Minister in Tripoli, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer. “We would like to inform you that despite the adoption by the House of Representatives of the cabinet line-up, according to which confidence was given to the Libyan government headed by Fathi Bashagha as new Prime Minister, the dismissed Governor of the Central Bank of Libya obstructed the work of the Libyan government, and deliberately withheld the balances of bank accounts for state public revenues from the Ministry of Planning and Finance, the Minister of Finance in the Benghazi-based government said in an official letter. “The Dabaiba government blatantly usurped the authority and continues to seize the collected revenues, and spend them without legal authorization despite the expiry of its mandate,” Hammad added.

Plateau United today failed to reach the money-spinning group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after they lost 3-0 to Al Akhdar of Libya to go out on the away goals’ rule. Plateau United won the first leg in Abuja 4-1 a week ago and the odd goal they let in at home proved to be decisive today. The Jos club failed to defend the advantage from the first game in the return leg in Libya today. It was scoreless in the first half, before a late rally got the home team to go past the NPFL runners-up for last season. Plateau United strikers also spurned several chances to score in Libya to compound their predicament.
