The Administrative Department of the South Tripoli Appeals Court today rejected the request submitted by former chairman of the National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanalla, regarding his exemption from his duties as head of the NOC. However, Sanalla has not given up the cause. CAIRO – 7 September 2022: Libya’s special operations force announced, on Wednesday killing the terrorist Mahdi Dango, who was involved in the Kidnapping and beheading of 21 Egyptian Christian workers that in the city of Sirte, in 2015. In a statement, the Libyan army confirmed that the operation took place after a series of investigation. Mahdi Dango who is affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, is considered one of the most dangerous terrorist elements, as he was proved to be involved in several operations and crimes, including the massacre of the Egyptian Copts. The Libyan army stated that during this operation, the terrorist Asman Nour, who was accompanying the Dango, was arrested. The operation was conducted in cooperation with the Libyan Army using six fighter jets of F-16C block 52.

The Libyan National Army (LNA) concluded on Wednesday a series of large-scale military exercises, involving two of its combat forces known as Tariq bin Ziyad Brigade and the 106th Majahfal Brigade. The exercises took place at Masous, an eastern Libya village located 130 km on the southeast of Benghazi, and were attended by LNA’s General Commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. According to a statement by LNA’s General Command, live ammunition were used in the tactical exercises, which aim to “raise the combat competencies of the armed forces units.”

14 new people tested positive for COVID-19, marking 10 percent of the infection rate, according to a Wednesday report by the National Center for Disease Control in Libya (NCDC). The center also said 16 have recovered during the same reporting period. The total recorded COVID-19 cases in Libya have exceeded more than 50,000 since the start of the pandemic, while over 490,000 of which have recovered, according to the NCDC. The virus has claimed the lives of 6,437 people. Over two million people received one dose of the vaccination, while more than one million others were vaccinated with two doses.

The Southern Tripoli Court of Appeals rejected urgent appeal submitted by the former Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla, against the decree of appointing a new chairman of the Corporation. The Circuit Court refused to consider the urgent part of the lawsuit, since more than two months had passed since the appointment of the current NOC board of directors. The Administrative Judicial Department of the Southern Tripoli Court of Appeal accepted, in terms of the matter, the lawsuit of the removed NOC Chairman Mustafa Sanalla and his fellow members of the removed board of directors, against the decree, confirming its jurisdiction to consider the case. Last July, outgoing Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, removed Sanalla and appointed Farhat bin Qadara as Chairman of the NOC Board of Directors. Sanalla filed an appeal before the judiciary against the decree to remove him, as a decision was issued to postpone the ruling in the case on July 27, then it was decided to postpone it again on August 17, and it was reserved for judgment on the 7th of September.

The boy, Mazen Adam, a refugee in Libya from Sudan’s conflict-torn Darfur region, was kidnapped last week by unknown gunmen demanding ransom. Hours after the video depicting this scene spread on social media, the boy’s father was taken by gunmen from his home. Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled and killed longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi in 2011. That afternoon, Adam received a call from another Sudanese woman in Libya, telling him that his son was likely kidnapped. “Is he still alive or dead?” his father, Adam said, speaking hours after the video emerged.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Department of Education and Integration of groups with special needs at the Ministry of Education launched, on Tuesday, the National Project for Educational Integration under the slogan "No difference" in support of educational integration of children with disabilities. UNICEF Libya said on its Facebook page that the project targets 12 schools distributed over 6 regions throughout Libya (Western Region - Central Region - Southern Region - Eastern Region - Southeast Region - Southwest Region). The UN organization explained that the project aims to prepare entrances and maintain health facilities of the integration schools and equip them with interactive learning rooms for students with learning difficulties, provide educational supplies, assess teacher training needs, and exchange experiences between Libyan Ministry of Education and ministries of education in Middle Eastern countries regarding school integration processes. UNICEF added that it intends together with the the Ministry of Education, through US Department of State’s support, to provide all students with a more appropriate learning environment, optimal resources and opportunities to achieve their best potential.

The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) said the grid had lost 480 megawatts at Zueitina, Sarir and North Benghazi power plants due to the shortage of gas supplies, saying it bears no responsibility for this as it hasn't received sufficient gas supplies to operate all units with their maximum capacity because "phase 2" of Al-Farigh Field of Al-Waha Oil Company is halted. NOC said the halt of Al-Farigh Field's "phase 2" was for less than 12 hours and we made up for the lost gas supplies by operating Al-Sahel Field. "Such halts are normal and tackling these issues come through coordination with relevant authorities to provide alternative fuel for power generation. We thank Al-Farigh Field workers for doing maintenance in no time." The NOC said.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that its withdrawal from the Arab League session came after the Foreign Minister of the Libyan outgoing government, Najla Mangoush, assumed the presidency of the session. The Egyptian Ministry added in statements to Al Arabiya TV that its position on the Libyan government headed by Abdel Hamid Dabaiba is that its legitimate mandate had expired. The Ministry explained that Cairo “has reservations about recognizing the government of Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, whose legitimacy had expired.”Cairo also called on international parties to recognize the Libyan government headed by Fathi Bashagha, which was approved by the House of Representatives (HoR). It is noteworthy that no official statement was issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on this issue so far. The Egyptian delegation headed by Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, withdrew from the 158th session of the Council of the Arab League at foreign ministers level, refusing that Mangoush assumes the session’s presidency.

Lamamra handed Sisi a message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inviting him to partake in the Arab League Summit, Egypt’s Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement. Sisi requested that Lamamra conveys his greetings to his brother President Tebboune, welcoming the Algerian president’s invitation to attend the Arab summit. On 1-2 November, the Arab League will be holding its first annual summit in Algeria in three years after being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
