The government will continue to intensify efforts to combat illegal gambling activities in the country as part of broader measures to curb revenue leakages and strengthen fiscal discipline, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.- BERNAMA PICKUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to intensify efforts to combat illegal gambling activities in the country as part of broader measures to curb revenue leakages and strengthen fiscal discipline, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. Anwar said enforcement actions against illegal gambling operators had already resulted in seizures amounting to billions of ringgit, but acknowledged that the challenge remained complex and ongoing. He said illegal gambling, particularly online platforms operating from overseas, posed significant enforcement difficulties due to their sophisticated digital mechanisms. Fong Kui Lun (PH-Bukit Bintang) asked whether the government views action against illegal gambling operators as a complementary measure to plug revenue leakages so that fiscal consolidation efforts do not rely solely on reducing subsidies. Anwar stressed that tackling illegal gambling required a dual approach, combining stricter enforcement with greater public awareness and responsibility.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (KL:PETDAG) will likely see higher commercial margins when the fuel retailer reports its results for the final quarter of 2025, said BIMB Securities. “Margins are expected to be further supported by strong sales volumes of higher-margin products, particularly Jet A1 and diesel, underpinned by sustained aviation demand and infrastructure-driven commercial activity,” BIMB Securities said. All in all, PETRONAS Dagangan will probably report a net profit of RM286 million for the fourth quarter of 2025 (4QFY2025), bringing the total net profit for the year to around RM1.1 billion, according to its forecasts. Investors were also jittery over Malaysia’s fuel subsidy rationalisation that was implemented near the end of Sept 2025. “We caution that the margin outperformance may not be sustainable amid ongoing jet fuel price volatility and an uncertain oil price environment” which could constrain the company’s ability to maintain elevated commercial margins, BIMB Securities flagged.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that the government will continue to intensify efforts to combat illegal gambling activities in the country. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said that enforcement actions taken so far against such activities had resulted in seizures amounting to billions of ringgit. “It is not easy because online gambling operators are sometimes based overseas. The prime minister was replying to a supplementary question from Fong Kui Lun (Pakatan Harapan-Bukit Bintang) on whether the government views action against illegal gambling operators as a complementary measure to plug revenue leakages so that fiscal consolidation efforts do not rely solely on reducing subsidies. Anwar said that in addition to enforcement measures to address illegal gambling activities, the government is also focusing on enhancing public accountability and awareness regarding actions that contravene the country’s laws.

At the opposite end of the state-citizen relationship, the government’s permanent “pay early, pay less” traffic summons system reflects a similar logic. When everyday law is structured around price incentives rather than fixed penalties, it reinforces the perception that rules themselves have become conditional. Against this backdrop, GE16 risks being dismissed as a managed process, stripped of decisive civic force. If corruption increasingly meets with justification or indifference, the challenge confronting GE16 ceases to be purely political. In a state where rules have become terms, that refusal remains the final line of institutional self-defence.

So-called whale wallets accumulated about 53,000 coins in the past week, their biggest buying spree since November, after weeks of heavy selling. While large holders have stepped back in, the broader trend still points to caution. The stop-and-start behaviour among large holders has sharpened a familiar question hanging over the market: who, exactly, is left to power the next sustained rally? Many investors who bought bitcoin through newly launched exchange-traded funds are now sitting on losses, making them less inclined to add aggressively. “But we are still in the storm now.”The Glassnode data track clusters of bitcoin wallets rather than individual traders, and can include large private investors, custodial firms and institution-linked accounts.

The announcement of the annual budget — one of the most closely watched political events in Singapore — is expected to contain fewer handouts than 2025, when Singapore was headed into an election and was celebrating its 60th anniversary. It’s the first in a new five-year parliamentary term, within which the government is required by law to balance the budget. In January, Micron Technology Inc said it will invest a further US$24 billion in Singapore because of AI-related demand. Among the budget recommendations submitted by the Singapore Business Federation is increased access to foreign labor. Cash handouts and rebates, however, will likely be targeted to lower-income households following the sweeping measures offered in the 2025 budget.

The move comes with risks in a digital health sector littered with companies that scaled quickly — but struggled to turn a profit. Last June, Ant rolled out an AI health app called AQ that aggregates health data and answers general questions. China has about five million doctors, with wide disparities in training and experience. The environment is shifting to become more supportive of digital health services — and consumer behaviour has followed. Alibaba Health — an affiliate of Ant — is controlled by Alibaba, which owns a one-third stake in Ant.

Carney said he and Trump had a conversation on Tuesday morning about a range of topics, including the bridge. Trump threatened to bar the new bridge opening, in his latest salvo against Canada over trade issues, which drew significant alarm among elected officials in Michigan. Trump cited Canada's financing of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, its refusal to stock some U Salcoholic beverages on Canadian store shelves, Canada's tariffs on dairy products, and its trade talks with China. Trump incorrectly suggested the bridge would be owned by Canada, even though the bridge is jointly owned. That the ownership is shared between the state of Michigan and the government of Canada," Carney said.
