PETALING JAYA: CelcomDigi Bhd has appointed Albern Murty, 53, as the company’s chief executive officer (CEO), effective Feb 10, 2026. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, CelcomDigi said Albern currently serves as acting CEO and deputy CEO, having been involved in leading the management team through the integration years following the merger of Celcom and Digi on Nov 30, 2022. “He brings over 22 years of leadership experience in the telecommunications industry, including seven years as CEO of Digi.Com Bhd (Digi),” the company said in a bourse filing. Prior roles Albern held include chief operating officer and chief marketing officer at Digi, as well as executive vice-president and head of emerging Asia at Telenor Asia. He succeeds Datuk Mohamad Idham Nawawi, who has helmed CelcomDigi as CEO since the merger of the two entities Celcom Bhd and Digi in 2022.

KAJANG: A businessman was fined RM5,500 by the Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday (Feb 10) after pleading guilty to two charges of injuring and threatening to kill a senior citizen at Jalan Cheras-Hulu Langat last Sunday. The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to one year, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both. The victim decided to continue his journey to Taman Suntex out of fear, while the accused followed him from behind. PETALING JAYA: Police have detained a man to assist in investigations into the murder of a woman who was found dead with head injuries early Monday (Feb 9). Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said police received a report on the incident at 8.02am on the same day. He said the Sentul Control Centre was informed of a woman lying with heavy bleeding to the head in front of a school along Jalan Sentul. ACP Ahmad Sukarno said police will apply for a remand of the 46-year-old suspect, who is unemployed, on Feb 10 to facilitate further investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) will publicly disclose investigation recommendations that enforcement agencies under its purview have yet to act on. KUALA LUMPUR: Ten premises selling electronic cigarettes (vapes) were raided by the General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade under Ops E-Cig Mega. Central Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Hakemal Hawari said the operation, which was carried out at shopping complexes in Lorong Haji Taib, found that all the premises raided had committed various offences. SAC Hakemal said the operation was conducted with the cooperation of the Health Ministry, local authorities and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN). (Feb 10): The European Parliament supported issuing an online and offline digital euro — breaking with a proposal by the leading lawmaker on the topic to only create the latter. Legislators on Tuesday approved an amendment arguing for both versions of the digital money — as championed by the European Central Bank (ECB). The parliament said in a statement that the digital euro is “essential to strengthening EU monetary sovereignty, reducing fragmentation in retail payments, and supporting the integrity and resilience of the single market”. The ECB wants a digital euro to lessen European reliance on US payment firms like Visa and Mastercard as transatlantic ties sour. But it’s still awaiting the necessary legal framework needed to underpin the project, with the European Parliament still finalising its stance after member states did so in December.

PETALING JAYA: Enforcement agencies will beef up actions to stop illegal imports of mixed waste paper, following news of such trash being shipped here from the United States. The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) said Malaysia does not allow imports of mixed or unsorted waste paper, including paper contaminated with plastic. Three types of waste paper are allowed to be imported under guidelines by SIRIM QAS, including unbleached kraft paper, paper made mainly from chemical pulp and paper made from mechanical pulp like newspapers and journals. Other kinds of waste paper, including unsorted waste, is not allowed to be imported into Malaysia, as specified in the guidelines. Stemming illegal wasteGiving its assurance, Miti said the existing framework in Malaysia already prohibits contaminated or mixed waste paper from entering the country.
