At the opening, the ringgit traded higher against a basket of major currencies. The ringgit was higher versus the Singapore dollar at 3.1495/1562 from 3.1511/1549 at Tuesday's close and gained vis-a-vis the Thai baht to 12.8697/9008 from 12.8840/12.9036.

The girl received mixed reactions from 24 classmates when she attended preschool for the first time on Monday at SK Sungai Tisang. HANOI: The Finance Ministry has called for stronger price management before, during and after Tet, the Lunar New Year, to prevent abnormal fluctuations during the peak holiday period when consumer demand typically surges. Stricter enforcement against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods was also ordered, alongside tighter oversight of price listing and declaration, tax compliance and tax refunds to prevent violations that could undermine market stability. Reports on price management must be submitted to the ministry’s Price Management Department by Feb 11 to enable timely measures to stabilise the market for Tet. Seven inspection teams formed to ensure market stability ahead of Tet. Separately, the Industry and Trade Ministry has set up seven inspection teams to monitor goods supply and market stability during the Tet shopping season amid heightened risks of smuggling, counterfeit goods and price manipulation.

Prince Group founder and chairman Chen Zhi was extradited to China from Cambodia last week, both governments said. The real estate regulator said individuals who have signed sales contracts for units at any of the five properties were obligated to complete the agreed purchase. The developer is listed as Prince Real Estate Cambodia, another entity under US sanctions. KUCHING: Police arrested two men and seized various types of drugs weighing 7.66 kg with an estimated value of RM328,173.50, in an operation here last Thursday (Jan 8). Kuching OCPD Asst Comm Alexson Naga Chabu said the two suspects, aged 42 and 38, were arrested between 3.40pm and 7.50pm involving two suspects aged 42 and 38. ACP Alexson said initial investigations revealed that the 42-year-old suspect acted as a storekeeper and drug courier, while the 38-year-old suspect was responsible for receiving and storing the drugs before distributing them around Kuching. "The 42-year-old suspect is believed to have received instructions from an accomplice before delivering the drugs to customers,” he said. He added that initial urine screening tests showed the 42-year-old suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, while the 38-year-old suspect tested positive for benzodiazepine-type drugs.
