This year's 'Boosted x Moana' cohort gathered for a workshop at The Fale Pasifika in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. For October, the Boosted x Moana campaign involves Pasifika artists seeking funding support to get some of their projects off the ground. 2008 Laureate Shane Cotton, who presented Jahnke with his laureate, said this campaign would help propel a diverse range of projects by Māori and Pacific artists. “Māori artists who use Māori imagery are becoming more acceptable today, there’s an embrace of Māori arts that wasn’t there before,” the 72-year-old sculptor said. “Crowd funding is a team sport, so we brought together this year’s Boosted x Moana cohort for a workshop at The Fale Pasifika in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, joined by our Boosted x Moana alumni, and artists from the Pacific Arts community and abroad.

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah scored two second half goals to give his side a 2-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby and to end 10-man Everton’s brave rearguard action. The striker’s second goal came deep into injury time as he finished a counter-attack expertly launched by Darwin Nunez. Manchester United were able to pay homage to club and England legend, Bobby Charlton, who passed away earlier in the day, with a 2-1 win away to Sheffield United. Yoane Wissa’s close-range finish opened the scoring in the 25th minute before Bryan Mbeumo and Saman Ghoddos assured the points in the second half. BookHub, the new site by New Zealand booksellers, seeks to gain an upper hand on the e-commerce giant. For Jenna Todd, the manager of Time Out bookstore in Auckland, the cry from local booksellers for an alternative to Amazon was an existential one. "This is a way of ensuring the survival of the independent bookseller in New Zealand," Todd told Stuff. The site aims to bring those buyers back to the country, to shop locally, and to rediscover their local book stores.

The artist, Em-Haley Walker (Waikato-Tainui, Ngaati Tiipa), also known as Te Kaahu, performs and records in two entirely different styles. Walker describes the club thumping music she makes as Theia as “challenging” and “confrontational”. It’s “political, sassy, feminist experimental” pop, while Te Kaahu’s te reo Māori tunes are 60s influenced, exploring cultural identity, the environment and spirituality. As Te Kaahu she was recently nominated for two Rolling Stone Awards, for Best New Act and Best Album. And as Theia, Walker was a three-time nominee at the NZ Music Awards and a finalist in the George FM Awards and the Waiata Māori Music Awards.

Hundreds of people waving Palestinian flags gathered in central Auckland today, calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. The crowds gathered in Aotea Square from 2pm today for the Rally for Palestine protest, with one woman pictured holding a "Ceasefire" sign and others holding "Free Palestine" placards. The rally comes after Hamas freed two American hostages and expectations grow that Israel is readying for an offensive into the Gaza strip. A single-vehicle crash was reported earlier tonight in Mornington. At about 7.42pm, police received a report that a vehicle had crashed in Mornington Rd, between Raglan St and Dawson St.Hato Hone St John attended the scene shortly after. One person was transported to Dunedin Hospital for assessment but did not appear to be seriously injured, a police spokesperson said. A section of the road was temporarily blocked to allow police and emergency services to attend but has now reopened.

(Supplied)A doctor’s letter to a patient, apologising for missed opportunities following a treatment injury, never made it through to the patient who was permanently disabled as a result of spinal cord surgery in January 2022. According to Shelford, the doctor would say to him every day at the hospital after his surgery that he wished he’d got to him sooner. A Te Whatu Ora spokesperson said that generally, clinic letters are dictated, processed by their dictation system and transcribed by a typist. The spokesperson from Te Whatu Ora said written correspondence between doctors and patients is allowed.
