"I wish to make clear my expectation that, with over 25,000 people on the social housing waitlist, social houses owned by Kāinga Ora are not to be left empty for a day longer than absolutely necessary. It is my expectation that Kāinga Ora works with much greater urgency to fill its vacant homes," Bishop wrote. "Of these new homes, 287 were empty for more than four months despite thousands of families waiting for social homes such as these." Photo: NZ HeraldMaritime NZ has filed a charge against KiwiRail after its Interislander ferry lost power in the Cook Strait last year. This week Maritime NZ filed one charge under the Health and Safety at Work Act following a near year-long investigation into the incident. Maritime NZ director Kirstie Hewlett explained the evidence they had investigated. She said Maritime NZ cannot make any further comment about the ongoing proceedings due to it being before court.

Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan faces a £58 million lawsuit over accusations he “carried out the instructions” of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince with “malicious intent”, it has been reported. According to The Athletic, legal papers sent to Al-Rumayyan at St James’ Park and other high-profile locations, allege he acted with the aim of “harming, silencing and ultimately destroying” the family of Dr Saad Aljabri, the Gulf state’s former intelligence chief. Aljabri was said to be accusing Al-Rumayyan and others of being “directly involved” in a three-and-a-half year campaign to pursue his family. Al-Rumayyan is the governor of PIF, the sovereign wealth fund that acquired an 80 per cent stake in Newcastle United in 2021. Newcastle referred requests for comment to PIF, intermediaries for which did not respond for requests for comment.
