A ride at Auckland's Rainbow's End theme park has been closed until Wednesday morning, after it tipped over while people were onboard. Rainbow's End chief executive Karen Crabb said the log flume ride was caught as it was sliding down towards its end, tipping onto its side. There were no injuries, but the people at the front of the ride got wet, she said. She said there was no risk to passengers in the event of the ride tipping, other than getting wet. Electric vehicles will lose their long-time exemption from road user charges (RUCs) on April 1, Transport Minister Simeon Brown confirmed this afternoon. Brown said that concern had been addressed by a lower RUC rate for PHEVs, whose owners will pay $53 per 1000km. If EVs maintained their RUC exemption as NZ’s fleet electrifies, the Crown would be left with a $2b hole in its books. Overall, she supported the elimination of electric vehicles RUC exemption, however. It’s time for EV owners to pay their fair share,” Wiley said.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said the father was parked at Unity Park late yesterday evening when the assault happened. When the father got out of his car, the man started arguing with him. He told the father he “shouldn’t have a baby out this late”, and punched him in the back of the head, Bond said. A vehicle was driving over road cones in the area before the driver fled the area and crashed into a parked car in Eglinton Rd, Mornington.
