File Photo: GNSAir New Zealand has cancelled 19 flights due to an ash cloud coming from Whakaari/White Island in the Bay of Plenty. GeoNet's volcanic alert says there is moderate to heightened volcanic unrest on the island. It's the second time in four months flight have been cancelled in an out of Tauranga because of ash. Air NZ's chief safety and risk officer Nathan McGraw says they'll reassess conditions this afternoon.

However, after locals protested changes to the "quintessential Kiwi" campground, the reserve board decided to delay its proposal while it reviews options. "It was great to see people supportive and passionate about Mt Somers. After failing to stop a young driver for allegedly travelling at excessive speed in a 50kmh zone, police officers just went to his house and waited for him to come home. ‘‘They attempted to stop the vehicle on Gordon Rd, but when they activated their red and blue lights, the vehicle accelerated away. Instead, officers drove to the registered owner's house, and while waiting outside the property, the vehicle pulled into the driveway. ‘‘The 21-year-old male driver was exhibiting signs of recent alcohol consumption. Sgt Lee said the vehicle was being driven by a 20-year-old man, and his license had been suspended for 28 days.

However, the business called the police after finding several images depicting children in sexually suggestive poses. Judge Williams told Shuter his sentence had to reflect the "immense suffering caused by people such as yourself who create a market for images of children being sexually abused". He had denied responsibility and repeated the excuse the images "did not specify the ages of the children". He also ordered that Shuter be registered as a child sex offender.
Invercargill could be poised to emerge as a vital digital destination, Datagrid New Zealand says, as the country’s first AI factory yesterday moved a step closer to reality. The facility would be New Zealand’s first AI factory. The factory would include the construction of a 78,000sq m AI factory in Makarewa, just north of Invercargill, equipped with a grid exit point electricity substation. Once operational, it would consume 280MW of power, making it New Zealand’s second-largest electricity user after the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter. Consent for the project was approved by the Southland District Council, Environment Southland and Invercargill City Council.

"We are very worried about the future of blood cancer therapy in New Zealand and the welfare of New Zealanders with blood cancer." He hoped that the letter will push the prime minister to work with healthcare professionals on moving blood cancer treatment forward. "We're in a desperate, desperate state at the moment, New Zealanders are dying prematurely from blood cancer and we need to sort it out." Health Minister Simeon Brown said in a statement that improving cancer treatment and outcomes was a key priority.
