Although details of the out-of-school strategy are still sketchy, government’s ambitious target implies that 937,500 out-of-school children would be returned to classrooms every quarter. Nigerians also await the Bola Tinubu administration to reconstitute the governing councils of federal universities in the first quarter of this year. Recall that in June 2023, the National Universities Commission (NUC) dissolved the governing councils of all federal universities following the President’s directive. Also, it was gathered that lobbyists are jostling to be part of governing councils of federal institutions with over 40 universities affected. Stakeholders have expressed concerns that this could hamper Federal Government’s plan to return out-of-school children to the classrooms.

Current allegations of corruption, which are being investigated, involve a former minister, who worked with former President Muhammadu Buhari. This brings to memory the campaign slogan by former President Muhammadu Buhari and members of All Progressives Congress (APC), including Tinubu, that if Nigeria did not kill corruption, corruption would kill Nigeria. If the avowed mantra of APC at inception was truly to kill corruption, Tinubu should summon rare courage to do so where Buhari had failed. President Tinubu should remember his promise to stamp out corruption in his Renewed Hope Agenda document. Let President Tinubu, the Judiciary and National Assembly rescue Nigeria.

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed optimism that the judgments delivered by the Supreme Court of Nigeria regarding the governorship election disputes in various states across the country will pave the way for improved public faith in the nation’s justice system. “The Supreme Court Justices, through their considered decisions, have proven their dedication to the sustainment of justice and fairness. By upholding the popular will of the people, they have reasserted the judiciary’s position as the temple of justice. “This demonstrates a commitment to the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, which are essential for a functioning democracy. “Tinubu’s neutrality throughout the Supreme Court process indicates his commitment to leaving a legacy of entrenched judicial independence for coming administrations to build upon.

A three-bedroom flat that was previously between N500, 000 to N800, 000 has increased to N1.5 million. A two-bedroom is as high as N1million and N1.2million, while a self-contained unit could be as high as N600, 000 or N1million in some highbrow locations.
