The National Assembly (NA) passed the Election Act Amendment Bill with a majority vote on Tuesday, despite strong protests and objections from opposition parties. The newly passed Election Act Amendment Bill 2024 imposes restrictions on independent candidates, barring them from joining any political party after a specified period post-election. During today's session, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Affairs Standing Committee Rana Iradat Sharif presented a report on the Election Act Amendment Bill. Under the new amendment bill, parties failing to submit lists of candidates for reserved seats within the stipulated time will be ineligible for those seats. The bill also stipulates that candidates failing to declare party affiliation before the returning officer will be considered independents, with the amendment retroactively effective from the Election Act 2017.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Monday that his country received $3.9 billion from the US via a project of the World Bank. “Ukraine has received $3.9 bn from the USA via a World Bank project. Expressing that Ukraine will receive $7.8 billion from the US this year in direct budget support, Shmyhal said this amount will allow Kyiv to pass the current financial period. “The grant will help the Government of Ukraine to reimburse priority social and humanitarian expenditures without increasing the debt burden," Marchenko said. “The funds were provided through the World Bank's Public Expenditure Support for Enhanced Accountability and Sustainable Governance in Ukraine (PEACE in Ukraine) project,” it added.​​​​​​​

Former Finance Minister Asad Umar was urgently transported to a hospital after suffering health complications during his appearance at an anti-terrorism court in Lahore. Umar’s legal representative reported that he began experiencing heart-related discomfort while in the courtroom on Tuesday. PTI leader Zain Qureshi was present with Umar and accompanied him to the hospital, where he underwent a medical examination and tests. Earlier in June, Umar was admitted to a hospital in Karachi due to back problems. In November of the previous year, Umar stepped down from the PTI party and announced his retirement from politics.
