The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) on Monday announced that it would not give a vote of confidence to Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. In a statement released by the party, the MWM Political Council said that it has taken the decision after consultation with its leadership. However, Speaker Sibtain Khan had intervened, saying it could not happen as the Punjab Assembly was in session and calling a new one would be unconstitutional. A day after the LHC had reinstated Elahi, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry had said that the party would ask Elahi to take a vote of confidence as soon as possible. It is pertinent to note that earlier the MWM had announced unconditional support to the former ruling party for the local government election in Islamabad.

It was his third consecutive package which has been announced by him after Rs446 billion dollars package for development of Province of Sindh except Karachi for which Rs1.1 trillion dollars package has been announced earlier. All these packages contain so much money if spent wisely on all the projects which so far has not been even started. This government has completed half of its term while announcing such packages, but when will this money be released is remain a question. So the fate of all these packages is at stake. We hope that government will look into the matter and form a parliamentary committee consisting of treasury and opposition members on immediate basis for the initiation, distribution and completion of all these announced packages in respective areas.

According to a CTP spokesman, CTP had decided to take strict action against traffic rules violators. During the crackdown, the City Police Station arrested the accused Abdul Jabbar on charges of one-wheeling. Similarly, Waris Khan police held Maheeb Kausar and confiscated the motorcycle from the accused involved in one-wheeling during the crackdown. Meanwhile, one-wheeling was going unnoticed on various roads of the garrison city of Rawalpindi as motorbikers, mostly teenagers, continued to perform wheelie and stunts putting their and others’ lives in danger.

The president returned the bill days after the Senate had passed it after Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani had hurriedly summoned a session of the upper house of the parliament last Friday on the government’s requisition when President Alvi had refused to do so. President Dr Arif Alvi has returned unsigned the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in terms of clause (1) (b) of Article 75 of the Constitution. As per Section 3 of the current Bill, Alvi said, the mode of elections of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor has been changed after the announcement of the schedule of elections. However, it was reported that the ECP later announced that LG elections in the federal capital would be held as per schedule. It said that the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) is a municipal body established under the ICT Local Government (Amendment) Act, 2022.
