Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting with senior government officials and experts to review the status of Covid-19 in the country and compliance of the directions issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a review meeting on December 22, said a source. The Principal Secretary was informed that as per the directions of the Prime Minister, mock Covid drills were conducted at health facilities across the country on December 27. A total of 21,097 facilities conducted the mock drill, of which 16,108 were government facilities, said the source. It was informed that more than 220 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered so far, including 102.56 crore first dose (97%) and 95.13 crore second dose (90%).

Share:The federal government on Friday planned to outsource three international airports including Karachi’s Jinnah, Lahore’s Allama Iqbal, and Islamabad’s international airport. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while presiding over the session on aviation and Pakistan International Airline (PIA) affairs, directed to initiate the process of outsourcing under public-private partnership. The PM also formed a committee comprising Federal Minister for aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique and federal secretary for aviation, Federal Minister for planning and development Ahsan Iqbal, and Federal Law minister Azam Nazir Tarar to overlook the process. The department officials said they were working on plans to get the PIA out of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s blacklist. Earlier, the aviation minister had informed the Senate that changes in the PIA would be visible within a few months.

The rate remains notably low, compared to the bank’s prevailing key policy rate, which is 16% at present. “It has now been decided to reduce the gap between policy rate and EFS and LTFF rates from existing 5% to 3%,” meaning the concessional rates have been increased to 13%, compared to 11% earlier. “In future with any change in the SBP policy rate, markup rates for EFS and LTFF will be revised automatically so that the gap between policy rate and EFS and LTFF rates is maintained at 3%,” said the SBP. With an increase in the rates of wheat flour, the price of flat bread or naan has ticked up by Rs5, the tandoor owners said on Thursday. The rates of flour from mills have risen to Rs125 to Rs130 per kilogramme, while chakki or stone grinder owners have also increased the price. Whole grain chakki flour has started selling at Rs140 to Rs150 per kg. Tandoori roti has started selling at Rs25 in different areas of the city, while taftan and sheermal are being sold at Rs70 per piece with an increase of Rs10. He added the lack of accountability in the Sindh Food Department has allowed the officers to distribute wheat stock arbitrarily.
