AMD delivered a big nugget of news earlier this week when it revealed that the next Samsung Exynos chipset (featuring an AMD GPU) will support ray tracing technology. It’s a big deal because full-blown ray tracing is largely limited to computers right now, promising far more realistic lighting effects and reflections. Now, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has told journalists (h/t: ZDNet) that the GPU kingpin won’t be following AMD’s lead by bringing ray tracing to mobile just yet. Still, Nvidia clearly seems to be open to the possibility of native ray tracing on mobile devices down the line. Speaking of Arm, the UK chip designer reiterated to Android Authority that it was indeed working on ray tracing tech.

Post offices and sub-post offices across the island will reopen from tomorrow (June 03) for limited services including elders’ payments, public aid and distribution of medicines, Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyaratne announced. Members of the public are allowed to use their payment cards or elders’ identity cards as permits to visit post offices during the travel-restricted period. Meanwhile, the Postal Department has taken necessary measures to recommence distribution of medicines from clinics of government hospitals to patients at homes with effect from tomorrow. This service is resumed at the request of the Health Ministry and the Presidential Task Force, the postmaster general added. Any issues concerning the aforementioned services can be inquired via hotline 1950.

According to the Mid-Year Population Forecast for 2020, the total population is 21 million, of which 14.5 million are over 20 years of age. The manufacturer had said that the release could be done and that the country would receive 2 million Sinopharm doses within the next 10 days. Jayasumana also said that the country has entered into an agreement to obtain 14 million doses of the Russian Sputnik vaccine. The Minister also said that discussions are underway to obtain the Sinovac vaccine, the other major vaccine manufactured in China, and that arrangements are being made for the initial steps to manufacture the vaccine in Sri Lanka.

The Red Cross Society in Sri Lanka has launched a program to provide transport services to health sector staff in support of the Health Ministry’s efforts to combat Covid-19. A major part of the fire-stricken cargo ship MV X-Press Pearl, which is currently being towed to deeper waters, is sinking, says Navy Spokesman Captain Indika de Silva. Reports revealed water leaking into the vessel has caused the vessel to sink by 50 per cent. The efforts to tow the Singapore-registered container ship began this morning (June 02) after a naval team joined the salvor team on board to tow it away from Sri Lanka capital.
