Landmark Shapleigh restaurant Ted’s Fried Clams is reopening under new ownership this spring, more than 75 years after the roadside clam shack first launched on Route 109. The new ownership team includes Joe Christopher, CEO of Upward Management Group, Rob Orr, Matt Orr and Roger Zeghibe. Ted’s Fried Clams is slated to reopen May 1, according to a news release. The new owners are renovating the interior and working with a previous owner, John Mavrakos — whose family founded Ted’s in 1950 — to bring back the restaurant’s original recipes and cooking techniques. “Harry and John Mavrakos taught me the fundamentals of hard work and hospitality when I was just starting out,” he said.

A driver was traveling east on 8th Street around 11:45. a.m. when they lost control of the vehicle and hit four pedestrians, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman. Flowers and debris go flying as the vehicle then smashes head-on into a tree.
