Meghan Markle on stage during the Time100 Summit Jemal Countess via Getty Images for TIMEMeghan Markle has responded to one frequent criticism of her recent lifestyle series on Netflix. Last month, the Duchess of Sussex took the lead in With Love, Meghan, in which she welcomed different guests – including her A-list friend Mindy Kaling and, naturally, her husband Prince Harry – into her makeshift home, while offering tips on cooking, gardening and entertaining. While it was popular with Netflix users, it’s fair to say that critics weren’t exactly bowled over by With Love, Meghan, with many reviews pointing out that the former Suits star hadn’t actually used her own home to film in. AdvertisementHowever, Meghan has said she had good reason for this. Speaking at the Time100 Summit in New York, The Times quoted her as saying: “People said, ‘Why didn’t you film the show in your house?’.

Andrew Harnik via Getty Images Experts say Donald Trump uses name-calling to discredit his critics. This can’t be said, though, for Donald Trump, who purposely name-calls (like when he labels his critics and opponents “haters,” “fake,” “bad people” or “crazy”). AdvertisementAd hominem attacks may disqualify you from high school and collegiate debates, but Trump has successfully used them since 2015, according to Mercieca. It’s the same for Trump, who uses this kind of language to discredit those who don’t share his beliefs. It’ll come as a surprise to absolutely no one that Trump uses terms like “bad people” or “evil people” or “crazy people” as a way to avoid accountability.

My father and paternal grandparents, on the other hand, followed the Republican Party and Trump down the MAGA path and continue to support him. College acceptance season, like the holiday visits to my grandparents’ house, has become a time of tension, apprehension and fear. Creating fear seems to be the goal of the Trump administration. The actions of the Trump administration have made it clear that we are no longer safe to dream.

I’m also an evening shower person — I take one almost immediately after returning home (and before I put on my inside clothes). AdvertisementAnd if you can’t be bothered to change your clothes, you should at least pay attention to two commonly contaminated items, your handbag and your phone.

My son has high-functioning autism, what used to be called Asperger’s syndrome, now called autism spectrum disorder, level 1 support. Over the years I’ve had several moments of pure fear when I didn’t immediately know where he was. One time, after landing and coming into the airport, he bolted for the bathroom without telling me. I told him it was inappropriate and that he knew better, even when I knew it wasn’t true, that he didn’t know. For people who may not have or even know children like mine, I wrote this to encourage more empathy in the world.
