The Bangladesh Labour Party has been officially registered with the Election Commission (EC) with the pineapple symbol following a court order. The Labour Party is currently part of a joint movement with the BNP. He added that the Labour Party aims to introduce a “new direction” in politics and will soon announce some candidates. According to the registration certificate, the EC has registered the party in compliance with the Representation of the People Order (RPO) following a High Court ruling. Earlier this year, the Bangladesh Minority Janata Party also received registration by court order.

The Nationalist Teachers Forum has suspended the ongoing full-day strike at Rajshahi University demanding punishment for those responsible for assaulting teachers, officers, including the vice-chancellor and proctor. The announcement came on Thursday afternoon from Abdul Alim, president of the university chapter of the forum, during a press conference at Buddhijibi Chattar. He said: “Earlier in the day, a meeting was held at the call of the vice-chancellor, where the forum’s leadership, along with teachers from the Zia Parishad and UTAB participated. “Whether we announce further action will depend entirely on how the university administration responds to our demands. The next step will be based on their actions.”The strike followed Saturday’s scuffle between students and teachers during protests against the reinstatement of a “dependent quota”.

A formal complaint has been submitted against Hasanul Haq Inu, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSod), in connection with the killing of seven individuals during the July Uprising in Kushtia. The court set Sept 29 for the charge framing hearing, with an order to present Inu in court on that day. Speaking at “Digital Banking for All: Bridging Gap in Financial Inclusion” on Thursday, speakers said one reason digital banking has yet to reach the desired level in Bangladesh is a lack of public trust. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has warned against a "fraudulent" job notice and work order being circulated in its name. In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry said the fake circular falsely claims that 161 people will be recruited under Package-13 through an outsourcing firm named Khandaker Traders. The ministry said the circular used a fabricated memo number dated Sept 7, which has “no basis” in official records. In reality, he currently holds the post of joint secretary (Planning and Development Sub-division-1), the ministry said. The ministry confirmed it has no involvement with the notice and has not issued any such appointment order.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return home “in a few weeks” to “lead the final phase” of the restoration of Bangladesh’s democracy, says BNP National Standing Committee member AZM Zahid Hossain. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Court orders Interpol red notices to be issued against S Alam, two brothersA Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of Interpol red notices against Mohammad Saiful Alam, chairman of the controversial industrial conglomerate S Alam Group, and his two brothers. S Alam's two brothers are Abdus Samad, vice chairman of S Alam Group, and Mohammad Abdullah Hasan, a director of the conglomerate. Tahsin Munabil Haque, the ACC deputy director and investigating officer of the case, applied for the red notices against the three individuals on Sept 16, according to the anti-graft watchdog’s spokesman Aktarul Islam.
