Other notable unrestricted free agents for the Stars include Joel Kiviranta, Luke Glendening, Joel Hanley and Fredrik Olofsson, who played well in Games 4 and 5 for Dallas. Here’s a list of free agents, per Spotrac, so the Stars can make their wish list. Just keep this in mind: money is tight, so don’t start envisioning Patrick Kane in Dallas Stars green. Depending on free agency, the Stars could be forced into using Bourque, the team’s 2020 first round pick, to start next season. Another cost-saving maneuver could be more time for Nils Lundkvist, who played in 60 regular season games this season, but didn’t appear in the postseason.

The email referenced costumes related to Indigenous people, but not blackface, which Surlan says he wasn’t familiar with at the time. Before students arrived, he put a blue medical mask on beneath the black mask. When class started he found it tough to breathe, so he removed the black mask and left the blue one. She told him students were upset that he was in blackface and Surlan appeared shocked and confused. That day, photos of Surlan in blackface began circulating on social media, parents started complaining and media made inquiries.

One would hope that books and literature would be free from attack but, alas, that’s simply not the case. Most of the condemned books dealt with LGBTQIA issues, or the origins and problems of racism. Perhaps Canadian national leaders don’t support all this but they know their electoral base, and they empower all sorts of unsavoury ideas and actions. If anything should be banned, it’s ignorance, fear, and hatred. Perhaps that’ll be next on the list of prohibited books, unless read with reactionary and dangerous blinkers.

Thankfully, there are tools that can help track down sources of methane emissions. Other researchers have already been using satellites to monitor methane emissions around the world. Using the Tropomi, or Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument, on the craft, researchers identified broad areas of interest that could be a source of higher methane emissions. The data revealed gas leaks from wells in the US, as well as emissions from pipelines feeding gas from Russia to Europe. The First StepSatellites are a great tool to hunt for methane emissions.

The Clean Energy Alliance, the community energy program based in North County, is looking for a new chief executive officer. By the time the expansion is complete, the Clean Energy Alliance will be the 10th largest community energy program in California. With that growth, Boswell said the alliance needs a CEO based in the San Diego region. Known as CEA for short, the Clean Energy Alliance began serving 60,000 customer accounts in Carlsbad, Del Mar and Solana Beach in May 2021. The firm also recruited the CEO for San Diego Community Power, the community choice energy program that encompasses San Diego, Chula Vista, Encinitas, La Mesa, Imperial Beach and on April 1 added National City and unincorporated areas of San Diego County.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is calling on the Liberal government to replace David Johnston as the special rapporteur into foreign interference, but he won’t withdraw his support for the government if they fail to listen. “We believe a public inquiry, the rigour and the scrutiny of a public inquiry, is the only path to re-instill confidence in our electoral system,” he said. Johnston recommended against a public inquiry, citing the secret nature of the information, which he argued would force any public inquiry to operate largely behind closed doors. He said the media reports about interference lacked key information and he suggested opposition leaders should get classified briefings so they can see the same intelligence he saw. “I’m not able to disclose the details of how that foreign interference applies to me specifically for national security reasons,” she said.

B.C.-based Gladiator Metals is drilling on the Whitehorse copper beltA B.C-based mining company is drilling on the Whitehorse copper belt, and that’s raising concerns from people in nearby neighbourhoods. Drilling in the area this spring has mostly centred on the former Whitehorse Copper mine, according to Kell Nielsen, the company’s vice-president of exploration. Drill trails were established there as part of mining operations in the 1970s and ’80s, but residents of neighbouring subdivisions say they now use those trails for recreation. Residents concerned“It’s a horrific mess,” said Glenys Baltimore, who lives in the Cowley Creek subdivision, near the work site. Still, he was unhappy to find a company drilling so near to where he lives without public consultation.

And it’s a place that Puddister says finding the right dress for the bride-to-be is the “best part of her job and the reason I keep going with it”She says, “It is so heartwarming to help people find that dress that is going to make their day special. That would mean there could be issues in getting the dress they wanted. “It’s a business that gives people more modern options to buy their wedding dresses. I think it was just the fact that I was in that store in Toronto that led me to open my own wedding dress store. I’ve always loved the way wedding dresses look and the designs and fabrics that are used.

Minister Reviewing CBC’s Mandate with Eye to Making It Less Reliant on AdvertisingBy Mickey Djuric, The Canadian PressOTTAWA — Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez said Monday he is starting to review the mandate for CBC and its French-language service Radio-Canada, including ways the government can bolster funding to the public broadcaster so it is less reliant on advertising dollars. His mandate letter from the prime minister said the goal in providing more money to the CBC and Radio-Canada is to eliminate advertising during news and other public affairs shows. The bill would require tech giants to pay Canadian media companies for linking to or otherwise repurposing their content online. NDP MP Peter Julian suggested this could help divert some online advertising money now spent on the CBC and Radio-Canada to smaller media outlets. The New Democrats want to see a new CBC mandate “as quickly as possible” because they believe it’s been under attack, including by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.

An interface fire crashed into suburban Halifax on Sunday, destroying or damaging dozens of homes in the west of the city. The Nova Scotia blaze follows early season wildfires that have forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate from their homes in Alberta. Sandy Erni, a research scientist with the Canadian Forest Service focusing on fire risk, said interface fires can involve either residential neighbourhoods or industrial infrastructure. Erni is the co-author of a 2021 study that used greenhouse-gas emissions scenarios established by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to model potential increases in wildland-human interface fires by the end of this century. Erni said the Canadian government has undertaken a national wildfire risk assessment, with mapping set to be publicly released next year.

HALIFAX - The Halifax Regional Municipality says preliminary estimates indicate approximately 200 homes or structures have been damaged by a wildfire that’s been burning in suburban Halifax. The municipality released the estimate in a statement last night, saying it was based on initial visual inspections by first responders and that a full assessment of the damage couldn’t yet be confirmed. “Residents are not allowed to return to their homes until they are advised that it is safe to do so by municipal authorities. It said the municipality is developing a plan to support affected residents, but it anticipated the process would take several days, or maybe longer, as fires remain active. Outside the Halifax region, there were seven other wildfires still burning, including the 62-square-kilometre Barrington Lake fire in Shelburne County.

Staffing shortages led hospitals to close their emergency departments for hours or even days at a time during the summer of 2022. But the closures did not stop at the end of the summer vacation period. South Bruce Grey Health Centre had overnight ER closures at all of its four sites through the fall, and had to fully close its Chesley ER for two months. In Minden, Ont., the hospital has decided to permanently close the local ER as of June 1, due to staff shortages. That has left the eastern Ontario hospital with a stable staffing situation, but at a net cost of $2.8 million just last year, said president and CEO Michael Cohen.
