HONG KONG (AP) — China will ban hidden door handles on cars, commonly used on Tesla’s electric vehicles and many other EV models, starting next year. The new requirement for both internal and external door handles will take effect on Jan. 1, 2027. “China is the first major automotive market to explicitly ban electrical pop-out and press-to-release hidden door handles,” he said. The new requirements would impact premium EVs more as retractable door handles “are treated as a design and aerodynamic statement,” he added. Last year, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into cases where Tesla’s electronic door handles reportedly failed to work.

Laurentian University Faculty Association member Elizabeth Carlson-Manathara argues the institution’s administration is ignoring both the past and current realities in the offers it is making to striking professorsAs we begin the third week of the Laurentian University Faculty Association’s strike, I am witnessing problematic math coming from the Laurentian administration. Elizabeth Carlson-Manathara is an associate professor in the School of Social Work at Laurentian University. During the same period at Laurentian, faculty lost 2.2-per-cent of their salary. Even with the percentage wage increases currently being offered by the administration, faculty salaries at Laurentian would remain at the bottom of the sector. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes in Washington granted a request to pause the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians while a lawsuit challenging it proceeds. While the ruling grants temporary relief to Haitians, the next legal steps were unclear. Secretary Noem is the decision-maker, wrote Reyes. Some will likely be killed, others will likely die from disease, and yet others will likely starve to death. In addition to the migrants from Haiti, Noem has terminated protections for about 600,000 Venezuelans, 60,000 people from Honduras, Nicaragua and Nepal, more than 160,000 Ukrainians and thousands of people from Afghanistan and Cameroon.
