Videos making false claims about Canada's immigration policies are popping up on TikTok and Instagram in an attempt to scam travellers coming to FIFA World Cup matches this summer, according to immigration and anti-fraud experts. Another common claim that CBC News observed in the videos was the existence of a special category for visitors travelling to Canada for the World Cup. But a special visitor's visa for the World Cup does not exist, and the normal checks and balances for entering the country still apply, Lidher said. I will argue here that, in judging Canada’s past, which Quebec nationalist circles reproach for conquest and assimilation, one must consider the tragic nature of universal history. It is only recently, during the 20th century, that conquest war was outlawed in international law. In our case, it is fortunate for the French-Canadian population that the conquest transferred them from the French regime to the British regime rather than from the French regime to the domination of the New England settlers. This is how France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States became more homogeneous as they modernized.

OTTAWA — Half of Canadians believe it would be unethical for Mark Carney’s Liberal government to achieve a majority by attracting opposition MP floor crossers, according to a new poll. Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementBut 63 per cent of Conservatives say MPs should be barred from being able to change parties. But with the Liberals within reach of a razor-thin majority, 51 per cent of respondents say it would be “unethical” for the government to do so by adding more floor-crossing MPs. Since Ma joined Liberal ranks in mid-December, many Liberals have suggested there could be more floor crossers joining the party. The poll, which surveyed 1,611 people online between Jan. 23 and 26, suggests Canadians overall are divided on the ethics of floor crossing.

This happened at a time when the sports world was being overwhelmed by stories of sexual or physical abuse. The first time we met was in 2019, as I was advocating for athletes demanding change. What I didn’t know was that Kirsty herself was a former gymnast and had also experienced emotional abuse as a child athlete. Kirsty told me that she would fight for this and, listening to the passion in her voice, I believed her. When the Trudeau government did not act on these recommendations she publicly admonished them in a way only Kirsty could, with kind firmness.

Every year it turns into the same conversation—length, speed, wingspan, testing numbers—and somehow the actual games start mattering less and less. When I went back and studied this defensive class, a pretty clear divide showed up. Don’t do it!” admonished Bill Esayli, U.S. attorney for the Central District of California — a Trump appointee — on social media. The root problem, surely, is the baseline level of violence Americans have decided to accept from law enforcement. ‘Where’s your papers?’ Is that what we’ve come to?”Rogan later walked that partially back, embarrassingly, essentially noting that most interactions between police and Americans don’t end in death. ICE has essentially invited Americans to take a long, hard look at policing — and at the country, at the same time.

Investing.com -- Ottawa is engaging in preliminary discussions with Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) to restore news access on Facebook and Instagram, citing the need to resolve critical trade friction with the United States, according to reporting from CBC News. The regulatory standoff has recently escalated into a diplomatic "trade irritant" for the Trump administration, which views the legislation as discriminatory toward American digital giants. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer recently warned that the upcoming review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) will "depend on the successful resolution" of such digital trade disputes. “The door has always been open on our government’s side to discuss these issues,” said Hermine Landry, press secretary to Minister Miller, in an interview with CBC. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has once again directed pointed remarks toward Canadian prime minister Mark Carney. “I would just encourage Prime Minister Carney to do what he thinks is best for the Canadian people, not his own virtue signalling, because we do have a (CUSMA) negotiation coming up,” Bessent said. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this month. In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, he issued a warning to Prime Minister Mark Carney that his politics may damage upcoming CUSMA negotiations. “To be absolutely clear, and I said this to the president, I meant what I said in Davos,” Carney told reporters on Parliament Hill.
