CAIRO - 16 July 2021: Saad Al-Hariri, the former prime minister-designate and current head of Lebanon’s Future Movement party, said his visit to Cairo included a discussion on importing natural gas from Egypt through Jordan to supply energy by 50-60 % in Lebanon. Hariri said President Michel Aoun had not accepted his latest Cabinet lineup less than 24 hours after the three-time prime minister submitted the proposal. Hariri said his meeting with Sisi did not tackle his plans to step down as prime minister and refrain from forming a new government. Hariri expressed Lebanon’s appreciation of the firm historic relations linking the two countries, which are based on solidarity and brotherhood. Hariri on Wednesday also met with Foreign Minister Shoukry, who reiterated Egypt’s support to Lebanon so that it can overcome the current situation.

CAIRO - 17 July 2020: The Health Ministry said Friday night that 77 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 283,567. In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said six patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,431. As many as 799 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 222,315 so far, the spokesman said. Egypt successfully is past a third wave of the pandemic, reporting daily coronavirus counts that are less than 100 for the first time since October last year. Egypt has produced a million Sinovac vaccine doses locally and has imported millions of jabs to vaccinate 40 percent of its 100 million population by the end of the year, a step that the World Health Organization has hailed.

CAIRO – 15 July 2021: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr Mohamed Shaker said Thursday that the project to establish the Dabaa nuclear plant is witnessing positive dynamic developments, adding that the approach toward the Egyptian nuclear dream is proceeding with the full support of the Egyptian political leadership and whatever challenges lie ahead the professional Egyptian-Russian team is able to address them effectively and successfully. This came during the minister's visit, accompanied by Alexei Likhachev, the Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), and a high-level Egyptian and Russian delegation to the construction site of the Dabaa nuclear power plant, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electricity. Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority for Electricity Generation Dr Amgad el Wakeel said that the construction of the Dabaa nuclear plant gives an impetus to the country’s continued economic development and helps achieve the goals of the Sustainable Development Plan for Egypt 2030. It is an incentive to increase the industrial and tourism capabilities of Egypt in general and Matrouh Governorate in particular, he added. The delegation also inspected the construction site of the marine berth at the Dabaa site, which is under construction by the owner, which is to be used to transport heavy equipment for the station.

CAIRO – 15 July 2021: Minister of International Cooperation Rania el Mashat said that the government is keen on improving the entrepreneurship and innovation environment in Egypt, with a view to creating new jobs that cope with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. She added that her ministry provides full support for start-ups, through Misr Company for Entrepreneurship and Investment that was established in 2017, with a capital of EGP 451 million to achieve Egypt's Vision 2030. On this occasion, the minister pointed out that some start-ups received funding from Misr Company for Entrepreneurship and Investment, which is the first venture capital company seeking to enhance the environment of entrepreneurship and innovation, along with empowering young people to implement their innovative ideas. Since its establishment in 2017, Misr Company for Entrepreneurship and Investment has injected investments worth EGP 275 million into 174 companies, according to a report by her ministry. ​Those investments encouraged the private sector and foreign investors to invest more than EGP one billion in such start-ups, it added.

CAIRO – 15 July 2021: The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) released Thursday the annual report on foreigners working in the private sector in Egypt for the year 2020. The number of foreigners who began working in Egypt for the first time is 4,202 being 36.8% of expats working in Egypt's private sector. Non-Arab Asians are the largest group with 42.2%, majorly from Bangladesh (26.1% of that group), and India (24.8%). As for Arab countries, the figure is 22.5 percent with Syrians and Palestinians being 22.5% and 15.6%, respectively. The sectors they work in are manufacturing (33.3%), creative economy (16.1%), petroleum and mining (11.9%), and education (11.4%).
