CAIRO – 14 July 2021: Representing Egypt, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala al-Said presented Tuesday the 3rd Voluntary National Report (VNR) at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, held in New York this year, virtually via video conference. El-Said explained that Egypt's 3rd VNR covers all 17 sustainable development goals, and includes challenges and gaps, as well as achievements and success factors. El-Said addressed the challenges that impede the implementation of sustainable development goals, explaining that these challenges included the digital divide, between males and females. El-Said asserted Egypt's focus on localizing the sustainable development goals at the governorates level to address development gaps through evidence-based interventions. It deals with the implementation of the sustainable development goals in each of Egypt's governorates and determines its needs and development gaps as well as setting competitiveness index at the governorates level.

Mahmoud Shaaban, Director of the Early Childhood Department at the Ministry of Social Solidarity, announced that the ministry had succeeded in vaccinating 98 percent of seniors in some care homes, amounting to almost 3,000 seniors. Shaaban pointed out that the conditions are stable inside care homes, and all precautionary measures have been taken, including sterilization, temperature checks, reducing visits, and other measures to protect against the virus. The privately-owned al-Dostor reported Shaaban as saying that the Ministry has set up a hotline with the Health Ministry to follow up on the conditions of the elderly in care homes and provide all their health and treatment needs. Social Solidarity Minister Nevine al-Kabbaj said, in previous statements to Dostor, that her ministry has a plan to provide vaccines for the most vulnerable groups. She explained that in addition to the elderly and homeless in care homes, vaccinations will be provided to the elderly who benefit from the ministry’s Takaful and Karama (solidarity and dignity) program.

CAIRO – 16 July 2021: Egypt announced that the national holidays of Eid Al-Adha and the 23rd of July Revolution will span eight days rather than six days to start on July 17 to 24. Previously, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli had issued a decree announcing 19-24 July as paid holidays for public sector employees on the occasion of Muslim’s Eid Al-Adha and the 23rd of July Revolution. Exams, however, will continue according to the previously planned schedule, according to Madbouli’s decision. REUTERS: Former Liverpool and Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge will train with newly-promoted La Liga team Real Mallorca after being without a club for more than a year. CAIRO - 13 July 2021: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Tuesday’s session in green, adding around LE 9.46 billion of market capitalization, amid Arab and foreign buying. The equally weighted index EGX 50 rose 2.01 percent, or 42.66 points, to end at 2,161.69 points. The small and mid-cap index EGX 70 hiked 2.27 percent, or 52.73 points, to close at 2,374.33 points, and the broader index EGX 100 climbed 1.98 percent, or 64.43 points, to close at 3,321.44 points. Egyptian investors were net sellers at LE 906.68 million, while Arab and foreign investors were net buyers at LE 34.84 million, and 871.83 million, respectively. Arab and foreign organizations bought at LE 6.85 million, and LE 872.35 million, respectively, while Egyptian organizations bought at LE 872.34 million.

Meteorologists predict hot and humid weather on Wednesday over Cairo, the Delta, and the north coast. Temperatures will be warmer in South Sinai and Upper Egypt. Humidity will increase the feeling of hot weather between two to four degrees celcius. Mist is expected on highways leading to Greater Cairo, the Delta, and the north coast in the morning. Active winds are expected in some areas of Cairo, South Sinai, Upper Egypt, and along the northwest coast.

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed said that a fourth wave of coronavirus will likely hit Egypt at the end of September or beginning of October, if at all. Egypt’s Health and Population Ministry reported on Monday the lowest COVID-19 death count since the outbreak of the virus over a year ago. The total number of deaths since the outbreak of the virus has now reached 16,403 cases. The Ministry of Health has announced that it will soon begin producing Russia’s Sputnik V alongside Sinovac at VACSERA. Egypt expects to receive, within days, two million doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, followed by doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.

Egypt also condoled with families of those who were killed in the accident and wished the injured a speedy recovery. t was the second time a large fire killed coronavirus patients in an Iraqi hospital this year. At least 82 people died at Ibn al-Khateeb hospital in Baghdad in April, when an oxygen tank exploded, sparking the blaze. Over 17,000 people have died of the virus among 1.4 million confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.
