JNUTA also criticised what it described as the education ministry's silence over the issue, contrasting it with the police action taken earlier when JNU students attempted to march to the ministry on February 26. According to the teachers' body, the lack of response has raised questions about the Union government's commitment to addressing caste discrimination in higher education institutions. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Indian National Congress have signed a seat-sharing pact for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections after days of tough negotiations between the alliance partners. Under the agreement, Congress has been allotted 28 Assembly seats, three more than what it contested in the 2021 alliance. The US Navy submarine sank an Iranian Navy warship, IRIS Dena, in the Indian Ocean as it hit the frigate with a torpedo on March 4. NEW DELHI: State-run gas utility GAIL (India) Limited on Thursday said it is assessing the potential impact on downstream customers after Petronet LNG Limited halted liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies under one of its long-term contracts. In a regulatory filing, GAIL said Petronet LNG issued a force majeure notice on March 3, 2026, under their Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement. Further complicating the situation, QatarEnergy, the upstream LNG supplier to Petronet LNG, has indicated the possibility of a force majeure event due to recent hostilities in the region. “As a consequence of supply restrictions imposed by Petronet LNG, the allocation of LNG quantities to GAIL under the contract has been reduced to zero with effect from March 4, 2026,” the company said in the filing. However, GAIL clarified that LNG supplies from other sources and suppliers remain unaffected at present.
