Sean O’Riordan reported on stories from various parts of Cork which illustrated precisely how flawed infrastructure is holding those areas back. Those companies are Nua Healthcare Services, Talbot Group, Resilience Healthcare, Galro, and Orchard Community Care. Those five companies were paid €129m in 2020, which means an increase in funding of 129% in just four years. The way the chattering classes have it, Gaelic football is careering into a green and gold wave of dominance — the Kerry kind. “You can’t park the bus any more,” explained O’Connor on chasing opposition ball, “particularly on their kick outs when they might be out of position. “The area you have to hone in on is the kick out. There’s a bit more space now, particularly if you win the opposition kick out. “The big carrot for [defending] teams is how you slow down the opposition in some shape or form when they win your kick out.

Double Olympic gold medallist Caster Semenya has labelled new International Olympic Committee (IOC) rules aimed at protecting women's sport as 'nonsense'. The IOC announced the rules earlier this week, and they will be in force for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Under the rules, athletes with DSD must prove that they 'do not benefit from the anabolic and/or performance-enhancing effects of testosterone'. An exception has been made for DSD athletes with a rare condition called complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS), which means they have not gone through male puberty. Speaking to Sky News, Semenya hit out at the IOC and its president Kirsty Coventry, claiming their new rules are 'nonsense' and 'unfair'.

This week, the Belgian set himself the goal of a staggering 167km ride on the Spanish island, and looked a little worse for wear when he completed it on Saturday. He played 352 times for the Blues, scoring 110 goals and winning six major trophies including two Premier League titles. An insider told The Daily Mail: 'Lisa was really taken back by the flowers - she truly wasn't expecting anything.' The Daily Mail told last week how the pair's beloved dog was cremated - and the exes divided his ashes in half. Sir, – Paddy Monahan raises important concerns about freedom of conscience in education, but his argument appears incomplete. While some parents wish to opt their children out of religious instruction, many others actively choose Catholic schools because they value their ethos. In theory parents support divestment but in practice they are not willing to give up their school to the process. The push for non-denominational schools is often framed as a neutral move toward secularism. Any serious commitment to pluralism must recognise there is more than one “elephant in the room”, and that all concerns about faith and ideological instruction deserve equal consideration.

War to last weeks, not months, adds RubioThe war in the Gulf is expected to last weeks, not months, and Washington can meet all its objectives without using ground troops, US secretary of state Marco Rubio said yesterday. Mr Rubio told reporters after meeting G7 counterparts in France that Washington was “on or ahead of schedule in that operation, and expect to conclude it at the appropriate time here – a matter of weeks, not months”. The deployments have raised concerns that an air war that has already disrupted global energy supplies could turn into a prolonged ground battle. “We’ve had an exchange of messages and indications from the Iranian system, whatever’s left of it, about a willingness to talk about certain things,” Mr Rubio said. In the US, where Mr Trump is politically vulnerable to rising fuel prices, diesel in California hit an all-time high at an average $7.17 a gallon, the American Automobile Association said.
