Could European countries really decide to boycott the World Cup this summer? The tight bond between Infantino’s leadership and the Trump administration means European football cannot look away. Why should the US be treated differently if it sent in the troops, and why should its part in the World Cup be indulged into the bargain? Trump has wedded himself to the World Cup project since his first term, naturally making mention of his own hard work in steering the bid when it succeeded in 2018. Initiatives such as the hugely popular petition in the Netherlands, urging a boycott of the World Cup, suggest public sentiment would be supportive of decisive action if the unthinkable came to pass.

Club Brugge fans celebrate in the stands after the Champions League win over Kairat at the Astana Arena, Astana, KazakhstanClub Brugge supporters who wore 'mankinis' made famous by the satirical character Borat for their team's Champions League clash against Kairat Almaty on Tuesday have been jailed in Kazakhstan for five days for showing disrespect. The trio were arrested in the stands at the Astana Arena in the swimwear, which was worn by English actor-comedian Sacha Baron Cohen in his film: "Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”, which mocks Kazakhstan and the United States. The 2006 film caused anger in Kazakhstan, where authorities discouraged its screening and threatened legal action over what they saw as an insult to its national character. But for a follow-up film in 2020, the country adopted Borat’s catchphrase ‘Very Nice!’ to try to promote tourism.

Rats rummage in filth and carry disease, but it’s the sight of their snake-like naked tails which sends shivers up the spine. The naked mole rat, also known as the ‘sand puppy’, lives in Sub-Saharan Africa. At low temperatures, mole rats huddle together for warmth. Nor is longevity the mole rat’s only extraordinary accomplishment: it has developed immunity to cancer and, apparently, it’s also free from pain. The mole rat, somehow, has managed to evolve a version of the protein which turns that around and does the opposite.

And if I’m with the right kind of friend, as soon as the table next to us is having an interestingconversation, I will become silent. Silence befell our table as a group of guys in their early 20s beside us recounted their dating woes. Does he really think a girl reading in a cafe is just listlessly waiting for Mr Right to choose her? He may present himself as a sensitive soul who needs poetry to understand his own feelings. If I see a guy drinking a matcha and wearing wiredearphones, I will assume he is capable of ruining my life.

He wants the United States to be the only superpower, with unlimited hegemonic supremacy over its hemisphere, unhindered by international law or feeble organisations like the United Nations. Trump also truly believes “the world is not secure unless we [the United States] have complete and total control of Greenland”. What we are witnessing today in Venezuela and Greenland is very similar to what European nations were doing for centuries before the 19th century. In fact, not being part of Nato, Ireland is even more vulnerable than Greenland. Playing for time, waiting for the 2028 presidential election in the United States, is not an option.

A wealth tax is undoubtedly a matter of social justice, allowing the Government to further fund public services and invest in a secure future for everyone. Critics often argue that wealth taxes are a relic of the past, but we must look at our neighbours who successfully utilise this tool. Countries like Spain, Norway, and Switzerland maintain recurrent wealth taxes today. While assets are mobile, research shows that migration responses to wealth taxes are small relative to the potential revenue. A wealth tax is better understood as a surtax reflecting the "additional taxable capacity" and unique utility — security, power, and influence — that comes with owning vast assets.

Any notion of an awkward 18 holes between Rory McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton was firmly dismissed by the Englishman in the immediate aftermath. Yet there appeared no ill feeling between the Ryder Cup teammates, which was evident on the course and by what Hatton said later. “Just before the Ryder Cup, I was 190lbs. So now it is time to lose a little bit of weight.”Hatton has no interest in falling out with McIlroy. The Italian is widely assumed to be the backup candidate in the unlikely event Luke Donald turns down a third term as Europe’s Ryder Cup captain.

A priest at the University of Oxford was told to resign after allegations of grooming and misconduct were made against him by a student. Father Damian Howard, who was appointed as a Senior Chaplain at the Oxford University Catholic Chaplaincy (OUCC) in 2023, has left the organisation after the 'vulnerable' student came forward with allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour. Howard was the Provincial Superior of Jesuits in Britain, the leading role in the organisation, for six years before moving to the OUCC. As well as stepping back from the OUCC, Howard has also had his Honorary Fellowship at Campion Hall revoked. The University of Oxford declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail, saying Father Howard was not a university employee.
