Austrian bank Bawag, hotly tipped as a bidder for PTSB, would most likely fund a potential offer through cash and shares, according to investment bank UBS. UBS analysts use a €1.83 billion potential bid price in a report analysing a possible deal – implying an offer of about €3.35 per share. The report highlights that Bawag could generate about €288 million of capital through an accounting manoeuvre on closing a deal. That is because the notional bid price would be at a discount to PTSB’s tangible equity value – leaving scope for a so-called negative goodwill, or badwill, gain. In the event Bawag wins the process for PTSB, UBS sees the potential for the Austrian group to suspend share buybacks to help finance the deal.

Patients could see faster access to new medicines, fewer shortages, and more access to generic medicines under deals agreed between the Government, HSE, and pharmaceutical industry on Tuesday. Health minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill said this was “a major step forward in improving access to medicines for patients”. A key issue is reducing how long public patients wait for new medicines to be assessed compared to private patients. An agreement with Medicines for Ireland, an industry body, focuses on supply, including shortages. Companies will be encouraged to launch generic medicines more quickly after a patent expires.

But Nwaneri is now poised to head out on loan - and it would seem the change of plans is largely down to Arteta. Marseille will pay a large loan fee for Nwaneri's services, though that sum will go down if he plays regularly. He follows in the footsteps of William Saliba, who spent time on loan with Marseille before establishing himself in Arteta's team. Nwaneri has started just four times for Arsenal this season, two of those coming in the Carabao Cup.

Clearly, a big lithium-ion battery powering an electric car will become far hotter than that when it’s being used, and so car makers adopt systems to keep the batteries from overheating. This works much better than the early air-cooling systems for EV batteries, as any owner of an original Nissan Leaf can attest. Liquid cooling essentially unlocked much better battery performance. Would that unlock even better performance? So any improvements that you can make to lithium-ion battery operation, which is really what we’re talking about here, will sustain the technology well into the future.”

Results of a survey of 64 Irish vets show they are up-to-date with current recommended best practices in calving management. To investigate such barriers to best veterinary practice, a consortium in 11 European countries was co-ordinated by the University of Lisboa, Portugal, to survey vets. The survey results, reported at the Teagasc Moorepark '25 event last July, included wide variation in Irish vets' recommended assistance times for heifers and cows.
