Walking through the Irish Emigration Museum on a recent visit to Dublin, I was stopped in my tracks at the section covering the 1980s. Tánaiste Brian Lenihan snr extolled the benefits of emigration: “We can’t all live on a small island.”He described high Irish emigration as natural rather than a systemic failure, suggesting a “global generation” of Irish people. The mile square city on the Hudson river was teeming with newly arrived Irish young people. The young Irish people who are leaving now seem more confident, better equipped for the transition they face. I am also buoyed by the accepting attitude of the majority of young Irish people towards the increased diversity of their classmates, whom they see as friends.

Oil resumed gains — paring a steep drop from Monday — on concern that other nations may be drawn into the Middle East war. US allies in the Persian Gulf were inching toward contributing to the fight, the Wall Street Journal reported. The war has stymied transit through the Strait of Hormuz, forcing Persian Gulf producers to cut millions of barrels of daily oil output. “If this shock lasts longer, this extreme tightness that’s now concentrated in the Middle East and Asia would spread,” Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The narrow conduit — which links the Persian Gulf to global markets — could be open very soon “if it works,” he said.

An inquest report can also clear up any rumours or suspicion surrounding a person’s death. But, most importantly of all, an inquest report can draw attention to circumstances which may stop further deaths from happening. Should journalists shy away from attending inquests then an entire arm of the judicial system is not held to account. Often families do not wish to speak to the press and of course that decision has to be respected. Without the attendance of the press at inquests questions will remain unanswered and lives will be lost.

Ireland captain Nathan Collins admits his side are prepared to engage in the dark arts to quieten the dominant Czechia crowd in Thursday’s World Cup playoff semi-final. "Every stadium we've played in, we've always heard the Ireland fans. Both nations will be playing for the right to face either Denmark or North Macedonia in the March 31 final, with a World Cup berth up for grabs. Czechia’s last World Cup qualification was 2006 and despite them reaching every Euro finals since, the craving to end their wait is palpable in Prague. “I’ve been very fortunate in my career but to have represented Ireland in a World Cup would have been a dream scenario.
