By far the best thing about the club finals is that they’re always unique. Big clubs, small clubs, city clubs, parish clubs. This Sunday will see the 55th All-Ireland club hurling final followed by the 55th club football final and in all those years down through a half-century and more, never once has a line-up been duplicated. And so, each club lands into the club finals this weekend telling themselves stories that feel entirely their own but which are all really just versions of the same yarn. Boyle-based artist Margaret Rattigan will represent Roscommon LEO at Showcase Ireland, taking place at the RDS in Dublin from January 18th to 20th. She will exhibit at Stand 95 in the Enterprise Area with support from the Local Enterprise Office Roscommon. A self-taught artist, originally from County Leitrim, her work is deeply inspired by the Roscommon landscape. The Gaelic Chieftain, inspired by the well-known sculpture on the N4. A member of an Afghan trafficking gang that smuggled young boys into the UK on small boats before raping and blackmailing them with the footage has been kicked out of the country. Ahmedzai, 24, was jailed for ten years in November 2024 and was extradited to Belgium last June to serve his sentence. Many would be put on small boats from northern France to the UK, with the gang suspected of transporting thousands of people this way. Other members of the group filmed themselves raping young migrants so they could use the footage to blackmail them into criminality and further sexual abuse. Two gang members were convicted of child sexual abuse and exploitation, and six other members were also sentenced for possession of indecent images of children.

The walk is 100ft above sea level and takes in views of Bray Head, Killiney Hill, Dalkey Island, Lambay Island and the Dublin to Rosslare rail line. Friends of the Cliff Walk are local activists that began clearing overgrowth from the Greystones end more than a year ago. The Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk Management Committee including the council met this week to discuss finding from RPS Consultants Ltd, a consulting and engineering experts. RPS Ltd has undertaken preliminary assessments of the proposal to carry out works on the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk and has determined that such works may have a significant effect on the SAC and “therefore extensive environmental surveys will be required under EU and national legislation”.
