Sir Keir Starmer was on Tuesday night branded China's 'useful idiot' as he prepared to approve its plan for a mega–embassy in London despite a growing backlash from his MPs. 'He is putting our national security at risk by acting as Peking's poodle. Luke de Pulford, of the Inter–Parliamentary Alliance on China, said: 'The embassy issue goes far beyond party politics, touching on key matters of national security. Join the debate Should national security ever be compromised for the sake of trade and diplomatic relations with China? Mortgage interest rates are now at their lowest level in almost three years, after inching down again in November. Nick Kyrgios jokingly smashed his racket on the ground after he suffered defeat by World No 117 Joanna Garland during the Australian Open's One Point Slam. Irish Times Motoring Editor Michael McAleer gives his take on the trends hitting Irish roads in 2026.Produced by John Casey with JJ Vernon on sound. So the Government will be voting no.”But no amount of safeguards were going to assuage the atavistic fears of Irish farmers.
