Irish laws will be changed "if required" to crack down on the creation and sharing of fake nude or sexual images created by Elon Musk's X artificial intelligence chatbot Grok, the Tánaiste has said, as he called for a garda investigation into the practice. Concern has been raised about the use of the tool in the generation of sexual abuse material, particularly relating to children. Mr Harris called for the gardaí to investigate all instances where fake images created by Grok are shared on X. “The generation of child sex abuse material is illegal as well. However, when it was put to Mr Harris that while the sharing of sexual images is illegal, not the creation, he contended that additional legislation could be required.

Sigerson Cup: TUS Midlands 2-12 (2-1-10) MTU Kerry 2-18 (2-0-18)Despite his best efforts, a tour de force from Westmeath’s Matthew Whittaker couldn’t compensate for MTU Kerry’s much greater all-round strength in a Sigerson Cup first-round tie that was far more one-sided than the final margin of six points would suggest. Boyle was a strong aerial presence, but Foley, Armin Heinrich and Donagh O’Sullivan all showed up strongly in the contest for breaks, and as a result, the MTU Kerry attackers were given ample supply of good ball. The lead was out to 12 points with ten minutes to play before TUS Midlands gave themselves something to build on in advance of a last-chance backdoor tie against DKIT. Scorers for TUS Midlands: M Whittaker (1-5, 1tp), S Birmingham (1-0), B Cooney (0-2, two frees), J Duncan (0-2, one free), L Glennon, W Seoige, J Kenny (0-1 each). Scorers for MTU Kerry: K Evans (1-5), D O’Connor (1-4, two frees), E Boyle (0-3), D Hanlon, D O’Sullivan (0-2 each), J Foley, O Ferris (0-1 each).

Minister for Communications Patrick O'Donovan proposes using a new Government digital wallet to strengthen child protections on social media through the use of ID verification. A new Government digital wallet is on the way and the Minister for Communications wants to use it to push through ID verification for social media accounts. Most pertinently, protecting children from accessing services where they may access inappropriate online content. While no right-thinking person will argue against the importance of protecting children, it does not mean the Government should trample on the privacy of the rest of the population. What penalties will be imposed on the social media companies that fail to implement these new rules, should they come to pass?
