Yellow warnings are now in place for parts of the UK, including much of Northern Ireland, until midday on Monday. “Bitterly cold conditions will persist through the weekend and into next week, with daytime temperatures struggling to rise above freezing for some, and overnight lows dipping to minus double figures in places. The amber cold health alert means that the weather is expected to have severe impacts across health and social care services. Meanwhile, the British Heart Foundation said cold weather can present specific risks for people with heart conditions because the heart has to work harder which can exacerbate existing health conditions. “It’s especially important that people living with heart conditions are well prepared for the cold snap this winter by wrapping up warm and having their free flu jab.”

The government has defended its approach to reforming legislation to deal with the legacy of the Troubles, after criticism from its own Northern Ireland veterans commissioner. Labour’s Bill, agreed as part of a framework with the Irish Government, will put in place a reformed Legacy Commission with enhanced powers. “The Troubles Bill will put in place six new and effective protections for our veterans.

‌England Under-21 winger Esse starred in the second tier with Millwall, earning him a £14.5million move to Crystal Palace last January. Things haven't been quite as straightforward for him at Selhurst Park, though, and he has played just twice in the league this season. However, talks have been opened and Lampard is said to be hopeful of wrapping things up sooner rather than later. ‌Coventry sit eight points at the top in the Championship, having lost just three of their 25 league games so far. I don't think any team in this league goes win, win, win and carries on like that."

The size of your head could determine if you'll be diagnosed with dementia later in life. The study participants were taken from The Nun Study, which started in 1991 and includes 678 Catholic nuns from seven cities across the US. Scientists believe a larger head circumference, which also indicates a bigger brain, provides a 'cognitive reserve' of extra brain cells and connections. When brain cells become damaged with age, a larger brain is able to withstand it easier than a smaller brain. Prenatal factors such as a mother's nutrition, weight and history of substance abuse may influence head size, and exposure to environmental toxins like lead may stall growth.

Eventually Villa came in late in the day and landed Elliott on loan, but he's barely featured and doesn't look to be in favour under Unai Emery. ‌It means there is already talk of Elliott leaving the Midlands and Charlotte FC, led by Dean Smith, are keen on landing the 22-year-old. Having featured for Liverpool and Villa this term the playmaker cannot play for another team this season in Europe. ‌That has opened the door to a move to America with the Daily Mail reporting that Charlotte FC have secured the discovery rights for the England U21 international.

Last year saw the highest number of cyclists killed since 2017, when 15 cyclists died on the roads. Since 2000, only two other years, 2002 (18) and 2007 (15), have seen more cyclist road deaths. “We are deeply concerned by the increase in fatalities, particularly among our most vulnerable road users, cyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists. “Six hundred people took alcohol or took drugs and still got behind the wheel of a car, putting themselves, and possibly their passengers and all other road users, at risk. “As we start a new year, I would urge everyone to resolve to have a greater focus on road safety, so we can prevent collisions and save lives.
