Lack of available land is hindering home building, says a report from Goodbody Stockbrokers. Photograph: Chris MaddaloniA lack of available land continues to hinder house building, says a new report that adds to recent calls on local councils to boost zoning for new homes. Most builders expect to increase residential construction this year, or to match 2025 levels, according to Goodbody Stockbrokers’ 2026 Irish Homebuilder Survey. However, the report warns that the industry now highlights lack of available land as the “number one factor” holding up new house construction, a turnaround from last year. A year ago, builders warned that planning was the biggest cause of delays to new housing, with available sites at number two.

Rating: 6Séamus ColemanShowed his leadership by urging his team to raise the tempo in the first half. An accomplished performance if it is to be his last one in an Irish shirt in Dublin. Rating: 7John EganNot a lot to do defensively, had a half-chance with a header in the first half from a set-piece. Rating: 6Nathan CollinsLooked solid and dominated the opposition forwards, another performance without a blemish after a bad run earlier in the World Cup campaign. Ironically, these retro interludes offer the film’s clearest, most coherent storytelling, an unintentional rebuke to the visual velocity and chaos around them. This breathless, galaxy-spanning scramble pitches Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach against Jack Black’s Bowser, now flanked by Benny Safdie’s bratty, megalomaniac Bowser jnr. The breakneck pacing and incessant noise can’t compensate for the lack of narrative momentum or heart. Nintendo aficionados may welcome allusions from far beyond the Mario canon. The dynamic between Bowser and his son, and the Frozen-like sisterhood between Peach and Rosalina, are jettisoned as quickly as they are introduced.

'Earth cannot keep up with the way in which we are using resources,' Professor Bradshaw said. Before the 1950s, population growth sped up as human abdundance increased – with more people leading to more rapid technological development. 'It means that adding more people no longer translates into faster growth,' Professor Bradshaw added. If the human population does hit 11.7–12.4 billion, it could have a devastating impact on our planet. 'Smaller populations with lower consumption create better outcomes for both people and the planet, Professor Bradshaw explained.

Photo: Bryan O’Brien / The Irish TimesMinister for Finance Simon Harris has once again spoken about his plans to establish tax-efficient investment accounts for individuals. Irish households have around € 170 billion sitting on deposit with the banks, earning 3 per cent a year or less and subject to 33 per cent tax on the interest. He would appear to have confirmed that they will be modelled on similar accounts introduced in Sweden in 2012 which have proved successful. Whether this approach or something similar proves sufficient to coax Irish savers away from their deposit accounts is an open question. The secondary goal of the scheme – to encourage investment in the Irish economy – should in theory benefit everyone.

Motorists forked out almost $4 a litre for diesel at a Perth petrol station after a simple but costly typo. Independent retailer Burk tries to sell to cheapest fuel in the state to provide relief for motorists. But its Carrington service station had the most expensive diesel at 397.3 cents a litre after a staff member accidentally entered the wrong price. Meanwhile, families hoping to get away over Easter are unlikely to get cheaper petrol before the long weekend, while regional areas could be waiting weeks for relief. But the change will not be felt straight away because service stations need to sell their older, higher-taxed stock before bringing in the cheaper fuel.

Sorba Thomas scored Wales’ equaliser (David Davies/PA)Although his side were much improved in the second half, Bellamy’s frustration with the opening 45 minutes was clear. We love teams that are able to win second balls and win your duels and I have to be honest, this team has always been brilliant at that. Michael O’Neill praised his Northern Ireland side (Nick Potts/PA)“We’re pleased to come here and to not lose the game,” he said. “I thought we showed good character because it could have been easy to think the game suddenly runs away from you. We knew that Wales had the potential to bring some of their first-choice players into the game which they did with Brennan Johnson and (Ethan) Ampadu.

Heimir Hallgrimsson dismisses speculation over Seamus Coleman's Ireland future:"We had a good talk. From all of us [in the squad], we want him to be with us for as long as he can. It's always going to be his decision [when to retire] and it's connected to what he does at his club [Everton]. He's really important for this squad, for the young players and for anyone to play next to him it would help that player to grow. "Obviously, he's just a good player and shows up game after game on the international stage, so why should he retire," Hallgrimsson said with a smile, speaking to RTE's Tony O'Donoghue.
