Sir Keir Starmer's Government and the European Union are at loggerheads over how many people to let into Britain under a planned youth mobility scheme. EU insiders view the proposed 'youth experience scheme' as a way to build bridges between younger Britons and Brussels after the Brexit vote almost a decade ago. There is concern a restrictive cap would undermine a scheme intended to cement a positive relationship between the UK and EU. But senior EU sources said the proposed measure is 'not a migration scheme' and did not need a cap. 'We are working together with the EU to create a balanced youth experience scheme which will create new opportunities for young people to live, work, study and travel.

Overweight or obese middle-aged women who consume alcohol are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer, a new study has found. NHS guidance states that there are several factors that put women more at risk of the cancer including genetics, dense breast tissue, and higher hormone levels. The NHS advises that lifestyle factors 'such as smoking' are linked to various breast cancers, with the National Breast Cancer Foundation also saying that 'smoking, including vaping, is a confirmed risk factor' for developing breast cancer. Researchers in this study, however, found that there was no significant association between 'between smoking and (breast cancer) incidence'. There are around more than 11,000 deaths from breast cancer every year in the UK - equaling a devastating 31 per day.

Dogs Trust Ireland says chocolate is highly toxic to the animals due to the presence of theobromine, a substance which dogs cannot metabolise effectively. “The easiest way to keep your dog safe this Easter, is to ensure that chocolate and other treats are kept well away from dogs. The charity is also warning dog owners about a number of lesser-known seasonal hazards that can pose serious risks to pets. Popular Easter treats such as hot cross buns contain raisins, which are highly toxic to dogs, even in small quantities.

They're commonly billed as a 'bundle of joy' – but having children doesn't make you happier, according to a new study. They found hardly any difference in reported happiness levels or life satisfaction between parents and non–parents. The study, published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, contradicts the widespread belief that children are sources of positive emotions. Analysis revealed parents were no happier than non–parents, and overall levels of life satisfaction were much the same. They suggest that rather than long–term boosts to happiness and wellbeing, children instead provide intense but brief positive emotional experiences.

Egg shortages on supermarket shelves have occurred because producers are not getting paid enough, says the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA). IFA Poultry chair Brendan Soden said: “Producers have been warning retailers and egg packers that farmgate prices are not financially sustainable to meet growing demand. “We have sought an increase of 2c an egg for free range & organic production and 1c an egg for barn eggs. This must be ringfenced and returned directly to all egg producers. Many free range producers (who are receiving little to no premium for free range) are weighing up whether the risk is worth it,” he said.

AI will be ready to score full marks on one of the world's most challenging knowledge tests branded Humanity's Last Exam (HLE) in a matter of months, developers claim. And full marks are on the horizon, according to Calvin Zhang, the research lead at Scale, the AI company behind HLE. Anthropic - the company behind the Claude AI system - has achieved a score of 34.2 per cent in HLE and is improving its marks at a rapid pace. It means that if the technology cracks the HLE, it will need to be tested on questions no human knows the answer to in future. As AI approaches the stage where it can master human-made tests, expanding beyond the existing limits of human knowledge has increasingly become the main focus of developers, Ms Olszewska added.

After speaking with Andrew, Epstein had stepped in to broker the deal with Mr O'Sullivan - and kept Andrew directly up to date. Since the Epstein files were released, she has become somewhat of a pariah.
