HULU SELANGOR: Perikatan Nasional will never shut down vernacular schools if it comes to power, reiterates Bersatu youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal. According to Wan Ahmad, Perikatan only wished for a national curriculum to be included in vernacular schools to create students who encapsulate Malaysia as a nation. "Perikatan’s stance is quite clear: we cannot shut down vernacular schools. "But of course, in principle, as debated in Parliament, Perikatan will never shut down vernacular schools. We are not part of the government," said Wan Ahmad during a press conference at Perikatan’s operations centre in Batang Kali on Thursday (May 2).

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revoked 64 sacco licenses. In a statement seen by the Star on Thursday, the Authority advised the public against boarding the sacco vehicles. "Members of the Public are hereby advised not to board vehicles belonging to these Saccos/companies to avoid inconveniences," it said. NTSA said the National Police Service (NPS) has since been advised to impound the vehicles belonging to the saccos or companies found operating following the revocation of their licences. The vehicles ply the Nairobi to Western and Nyanza routes.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi is a man staring at a job loss as MPs convene today to debate on his impeachment motion. The troubles facing Linturi stems from an alleged scandal surrounding the quality of fertiliser recently supplied to farmers by the government. According to Wamboka, at least 110 MPs signed the petition to have Linturi removed from office. He said Linturi failed to show professionalism in carrying out his duties and in a manner that maintains his public confidence in the integrity of the office. The Nairobi City County Government has stated that it will soon establish a city-owned air quality data management system. The system will have an open public data access portal alongside an air quality monitoring network to help reduce air pollution and safeguard public health. It said the priority areas include equipping the city with its air quality monitoring network and air quality management system, development and enactment of Nairobi Air Quality regulations, capacity building training, procurement and deployment of comprehensive low-cost sensor Air Quality monitoring network and data and research among others. He said Governor Johnson Sakaja's administration is committed to developing and enacting Air Quality regulations and adopting an Air Quality Action Plan. According to the county Executive, the establishment of Air Quality Regulations and a cabinet-approved Air Quality Plan will lay the foundation for sustainable Air Quality programmes.
