The victim, identified as one Moses Jallah, is a staff of Customs and works with the anti-smuggling unit of the LRA. Mr. Jallah was attacked around 8pm, on Monday, May 10. According to family sources, Mr. Jallah has been stabilized and is currently receiving treatment at a local health facility. The LRA further empathized with the family and wishes Mr. Moses Jallah speedy recovery. Fear has reportedly gripped employees of the LRA and other anti-graft institutions in Liberia following the latest incident involving Anti-Smuggling Officer Moses Jallah of the LRA.

According to him, the failure of the staff of the COVID Testing Center to give his daughter her COVID-19 Testing reference number has caused his family to incur more than US$800 extra expenses. Younger Fasuekoi, the daughter of the longtime Liberian journalist and owner and Manager of Fazee Restaurant in the U.S. came along with her father to Liberia on a vacation. After booking her ticket with Air France, Younger went to the testing center at Sophie in Congo Town to do her COVID-19 test as required before leaving Liberia. On May 5, Younger went back and did her COVID-19 test with the charged fee of US$75 – all of that was done stipulated time to avoid embarrassment, she said. After running her test, she was not given her covid-19 reference number by staff from the testing center.

David Korboi, Jr., reportedly the ringleader of the gang was arrested based on the cooperation of Lamie J.J. Dennis, one of the suspects initially arrested by the Liberia National Police. Dennis, 38, is the brother of the landlord of one of the men who was brutalized. The Liberia National Police continue to remain tightlipped on the status of the investigation. The country has not defined its stance on the protection of the rights of its LGBT population. MONROVIA – A General Auditing Commission (GAC) findings have uncovered several discrepancies and unorthodox financial practices in the application of the Nimba County Development Fund in the tone of US$800,000.00. The audit report covers fiscal years 2011 to 2013. In the GAC audit, it was discovered that during the fiscal period 2011/2012 and 2012/2013, the Nimba County Administration received the amount of US$800,000.00 development fund with an operating bank account balance of US$ 2,239,835.08. According to a summary report provided by the Legislature Public Account committee (PAC), the County received US$200,000.00 as County Development fund. The Audit report also states that the cash position was verified from the SDF bank statement for Nimba County social development fund’s account obtained from LBDI.

Gbartala, Bong County – Deborah Gonkpah, a fellow of SHE-CAN, a United States-based non-profit organization that is building women’s leadership in post-conflict countries, has constructed two pit latrines for residents of Gbartala in Bong County. Valued at over US$ 600, the latrines will will serve over five hundred residents. Gonkpah also said her decision to construct latrines for residents of Gbartala is to discourage the traditional and unhygienic practice of defecating in bushes or open fields. She encouraged residents of Gbartala to wash their hands with soap before meals and after using the toilets, inorder to prevent diarrhoea and cholera. SHE-CAN is a US-based non-profit that is building women’s leadership in post-conflict countries.

ADDIS ABABA – Thenewly-elected Commissioner of the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, has assured the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) of participation in both Peace Support Operation and Military Support Operation of the African Union (AU) once the new structure comes into force, in July 2021. Commissioner Bankole Adeoye further stated that under his tenure as Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, he will foster close and cordial working relations with Liberia. Colonel Forleh, following his presentation, used the occasion to request Liberia’s participation in both Peace Support Operations and Military Staff Support to the African Union Missions. He also informed the Commissioner that the AFL has gone under rigorous and professional training since its restructuring in 2006 to present. He further averred that Liberia also served as Member of the African Union Peace and Security Council in 2018, for a period of two years, as Chair of the Military Staff Committee.

Monrovia – The Open Air Sports Commission on Broad Street will come alive with the much anticipated Mr. Montserrado Weightlifting competition on Friday, May 14, 2021. The competition is organized by Strength of Lion in collaboration with All Star Bodybuilders in Liberia. SOLIC said the objective of the competition is to provide training, recruit members and promote gym sports into the national county sports meet and national and regional peace building. Additionally, the program will derive a two-year action plan of the Bodybuilding Association and youth empowerment through gym sport.
