MONROVIA – The former Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Dr. Mosoka P. Fallah has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 UK Alumni Global Impact Award. Dr. Fallah, a renowned global public health expert, was selected by University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC), the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, and the UK International Advisory Council (IAC) for the top international award. To be eligible for the award, all UK alumni must have received a degree from the University of Kentucky (in exceptional cases, attendance without a degree may be considered). Accordingly, the former NPHIL boss, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Rescue Place International (RPI), was selected for the prestigious global award having passed all of the criteria. Monrovia – Angie Brooks International Centre (ABIC) for Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security over the weekend launched a slum peacepreneurs project to empower over 250 disadvantage youths across Montserrado County. Also speaking, the Chair of Board of ABIC, Madam Olubanke King-Akerele called on the disadvantage youths to make use of the skills acquired to contribute to national development. Monrovia – Liberia internationally certified coach Alfred Kandakai has donated tennis rackets to several kids at the National Tennis Center. It is used for striking a ball or shuttlecock in games such as squash, tennis, racquetball, rackets, badminton, and padel. Coach Alfred who is the founder of youth for tennis said the donation was made possible through the assistance of his panthers in and out of Liberia. Alfred who is also technical director of the Liberia Tennis Federation said Youth for Tennis is mainly targeting girls who want to play tennis and take tennis as their official sport. The Liberian tennis coach said the kids have been trained for the last nine months and see a real prospect in the kids who will be ready for international competition in December of 2021.

Ministries of Defense, Agriculture Sign MoU For the Re-activation of the Agriculture Company of the Armed Forces of LiberiaBARCLAY TRAINING CENTER – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Ministry of National Defense (MoD) and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) that will lead to the re-activation of the Agriculture Company of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). The MoU comes in response to President George Weah’s request of establishing the AFL Agriculture Company to help address Liberia’s food insecurity challenges. Jeanine Milly Cooper, expressed thrill on bringing to fruition the President’s mandate of enhanced collaboration between the MoD and MoA to address Liberia’s challenge of food insecurity. The MoU seeks to develop a comprehensive strategy through the establishment of vocational training program for present and future veterans. According to the MoU, “The Ministries of Defense and Agriculture shall share experience and provide expertise within a framework that supports agriculture production.”

Trumpeted as a game changer for traffic safety and enhancement of operations of the Liberia National Police, the Liberia Traffic Management Concession is now in limbo. Donated items catching DustToday, FrontPageAfrica has uncovered, all of those items donated vehicles and bikes are gathering dust and have not been put to use because the concession agreement has been breached by the Weah administration. “Following the renegotiation process, the Concession was signed on September 11, 2018 between the Government of Liberia and Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated(LTM) for twenty years with a total investment of forty million United States Dollars,” the President told the Speaker. Similarly, the Liberia Traffic Management and the Government of Liberia signed a concession agreement on September 11th, 2018, ratified into law on December 21st 2018 and published into handbill on January 7th 2019.

The sad reality is that many of those graduates are unlikely to find jobs, improve theirs or that of their families. THE COUNTRY has suffered serious brain drain and degradation as a result of the civil war. SCORES OF SKILLED LIBERIANS are residing in countries around the world, especially in parts of West Africa, Europe, the United States and Canada. Judge Morgan was recently found guilty of breaching judicial ethics by the Judiciary Inquiry Commission (JIC) for wrongly handling the case involving Ducor Petroleum and unfreezing the account without the consent of all parties. Monrovia – Amos Brosuis, the owner of Ducor Petroleum which from which Commercial Court Judge Eva Mappy-Morgan illegally authorized the withdrawal of US$3 million when the court had frozen the account, has requested Chief Justice Francis Korkpor to have the Judge Morgan restitute the amount. Judge Morgan was recently found guilty of breaching judicial ethics by the Judiciary Inquiry Commission (JIC) for wrongly handling the case involving Ducor Petroleum and unfreezing the account without the consent of all parties. Mr. Brosuis recounted in his letter to the Chief Justice that the JIC investigation established that there was an agreement between Monrovia Oil Trading Company (MOTC) and Ducor Petroleum Management bank accounts no. He informed the Chief Justice that Judge Morgan’s depletion of his account has left untold suffering on his children who are frequently thrown out of school.

The need for reform to our Liberian system of education is a dire concern. THE QUEST TO REFORM LIBERIA EDUCATION appears in the context of a crusade guided by morals and ethics. Mathematically, if private schools’ teachers’ salaries are screened for income taxes by financial authorities of private institutions, then why have many private schools not affirming the codes of the Decent Work Act. However, private schools in their quest to maximize profit, increase their fees and tuition exorbitantly yet they underpaid teachers. The part of Liberia which make up the hinterland, bears the worst casualties of the brunt of Liberia educational pitfalls.

Following his appointment by the Government of India as Honorary Consul General to Liberia in 1998, Dr. Sachdeva “effectively” performed his consular duties by “concretizing the socio-economic and cultural ties between Liberia and India”. “During your tenure as Honorary Consul General of the Republic of India, cooperation and the exchange between the two countries attained new heights. Dr. Sachdeva maintained that in December 2014, the Government of India donated another consignment of 15 new buses as India’s way of identifying with Liberia’s development challenges. There have been mounting concerns that the ex-Indian Honorary Consul General would discontinue his humanitarian works following his relieve from the post. The latest honor brings to two the number of times Dr. Sachdeva has received Liberia’s highest honors.
