Additionally, the report highlights that people face discrimination in employment, health, housing, education and access to essential services based on their real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. The report welcomes the fact that the National Human Rights Action Plan and the National HIV and AIDS Strategic Plan make reference to people of diverse sexual orientation and gender identity, but calls for stronger legal and policy measures to protect individuals from violence and discrimination based their on sexual orientation and gender identity. It also highlights that human rights defenders should be allowed to do their work on these issues without fear of threats, harassment or restrictions.

MONROVIA – At long last, the Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Ministry of Justice, has officially received autopsy reports on the four Liberian auditors who died under mysterious circumstances one after the other in the country. “I presented the reports to the Justice Ministry this morning and they have it now. Justice Ministry is the prosecuting authority and they supposed to have a press conference to release the reports because, what we generated were evidences”. He maintained that all of the processes which led to the finalization of the autopsy reports were done in a transparent and professional manner. “The Justice Ministry and the US team have access to the reports.

Jeppoh further stated that Ponpon’s condition, prior to a surgery that was conducted by the John F. Kennedy Medical Center was unbearable. “Since the unfortunate incident took place, our son Archie Ponpon has been in near-death pains that saw him being taken to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center for emergency treatment. Following medical experts’ assessment of the injury incurred, it was advised that Archie Ponpon undergo surgery on parts of his body that were seriously affected. This life-threatening surgery was successful and Archie is recovering at the John F. Kennedy hospital with suggestion that he is taken abroad for advanced treatment,” Jeppoh averred. Jeppoh maintained that doctors at the JFK have advised that Ponpon seeks further medication and are appealing to President George Weah for extra assistance.

MONROVIA – Representative Mr. Hanson Kaizulu (District #17, Montserrado County) says the decision that led to the impeachment and removal of Justice Kabinah Ja’neh from the Supreme Court’s bench should be seen as a collective responsibility and call on government to honor the ECOWAS court ruling on the matter. “Some of us at the time taught the decision to impeach Justice Ja’neh wasn’t timely but the majority took the decision. There was no procedural error, what I think is that the substantive of the case was not enough to impeach him. Ja’neh, through his lawyer prayed the Supreme Court not to admit the verdict into the Senate’s records because the procedure used to impeach him was unconstitutional, but his request was denied. He vowed to seek redress at the ECOWAS Court.

MONROVIA – A local civil society organization has launched a new project under the banner the ‘Consumer Rights Protection’. The new project would ensure the protection of consumers’ rights through litigation against people who tend to defraud them of their money. In an interview with FrontPageAfrica he said, the launch of the advocacy group would ensure that consumers’ rights are protected. “As an advocacy group of consumers, we are against any thing that has the tendency to impede the will of consumers. We want to sue people for misappropriating people money.”He described the advocacy group as fighter for economic middle class.

MONROVIA – Just a Girl Initiatives, a local not for profit organization has launched circle 3 of its Inclusive Vocational Empowerment Program. Since Just a Girl Launched its tuition vocational empowerment program in 2017 and its official start in 2018, at least 80 girls and women have so far benefited from the program. With the 115 new beneficiaries joining the current 40 beneficiaries in the program, it brings to total 155 beneficiaries with women accounting for 90 percent. The former Press Union of Liberia President went said one of the building blocks for country’ advancement and development is for the nation to invest in human resource capacity by capacitating its citizens with marketable technical and vocational skills. Mr. Quaqua added that when technical and vocational skills acquisition becomes a priority to a nation and its citizens, the country develops faster and it brings about jobs creation and boosts the entrepreneurship sector.
