Monrovia – Civil Society Organizations promoting Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in the country are calling on the Legislature to increase budgetary allocation for the WASH sector in Liberia. Speaking at the event, the Chairman for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) actors in the WASH sector, Gus Myers said hand washing is very important adding that it plays an important role in a healthy nation. “Now that we have an institution, the national WASH Commission that has the full mandate to ensure the WASH practices are observed, policies are follow and implement, it will be important to note that the commission has an increased budget for the WASH sector,” Myers said. Kaipay said the establishment of WASH caucus at the ECOWAS Parliament will improve hygienic condition in the region, adding that members of the parliament will take the awareness in their various countries. Monrovia – The Institute for Research and Democratic Development (IREDD) has organized its second Advocacy Engagement Policy Dialogue with Stakeholders of the Government of Liberia Covid-19 Household Food Support Program (COHFSP) at iCampus, on Carey Street. The aim of the dialogue was to solicit solutions to improve Government of Liberia Covid-19 Household Food Support Program (COHFSP) implementation mechanism and information sharing. Speaking at the start of the dialogue, the COHFSP Steering Committee Chairperson and Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Prof. Wilson Tarpeh thanked IREDD for setting up the dialogue something he said the steering committee welcome. “We look forward to the reports from IREDD; we look forward to the presentation of those reports. The workshop was supported by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) under the Liberia Tourism Development project funded by the Enhanced Integrated Framework program. MONROVIA – The remains of fallen Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah-Nyepan was on Thursday evening returned to Liberia. The Ministry of Public Works on Wednesday called on the public honor their former boss and expressed disappointment in rumors surrounding his death. Minister Nyenpan went into coma before doctors at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center managed to stabilize him after which he was flown to neighboring Ghana for further treatment. Minister Nyenpan had been undergoing intense treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana over the past two months. A former Senator from Sinoe County, Mr. Nyenpan, 54, was appointed by President Weah in February 2018 and confirmed by the Senate on February 15, 2018 as Minister of Public Works.

The MOU calls for the establishment of a Joint Working Group comprising of members from the Moroccan Ministry of Health and the Liberian Ministry of Health to execute the Cooperation on Health within a five-year period. Monrovia – Victor Yowo, an ordinary security personnel of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), has spent two nights behind bars at the Monrovia Central Prison, commonly known as South Beach for alleged power theft. Yowo was incarcerated at the Monrovia Central Prison on Wednesday by Monrovia City Court Judge Jomah Jallah for his alleged involvement in power theft. However, power theft in Liberia is a common practice among community members who feel frustrated over the bureaucracy involved in getting electricity from the state corporation. Based on this, in August 2019, the Liberian Senate in its 57th day sitting passed President George Weah Power Theft Bill. The bill, which seeks to criminalize power theft as felonious crime was signed and published into handbill to reduce the rampant stealing of current.
