Local organizations stepped up to engage with communities, and because the communities trusted those organizations, they took on the fight. At the same time, civil society organizations set up monitoring mechanisms to track communities’ needs, figuring out where gaps needed to be filled. It should stop the politics, involve public health professionals and give civil society organizations the opportunity to lead. Monrovia – A survey conducted by the Liberia Health CSOs Network (LIHCON), a membership-based CSOs working in the health sector, has revealed that too much gaps exist in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The scorecard tracked readiness of health facilities in 45 selected facilities in five of the fifteen counties in of Liberia including Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Sinoe, RiverCess and Grand Kru Counties. “This is critical, according to the group, as it affects health workers’ safety and confidence as well as health seeking behaviors of the public,” it said. Speaking further, she called on the government and the striking health workers settle their differences the soonest possible time so that the public can begin to have full access to health services. The readiness indicators that were access include infection prevention and control (triage and supplies), health workers capacity and screening and referral and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

Monrovia – Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation, Mr. Peter ERIKSSON, is heading a high-level Mission to Liberia and will arrive on October 8, 2020. Earlier this year, the Swedish embassy in Liberia in consultation with Liberian authorities developed a proposal for a 5-year Country Development and Cooperation Strategy to be implemented from 2021 to 2025. The new proposal is more or less a continuation of the current cooperation strategy with the addition of a new thematic area relating to Climate Change and the Environment. They provide support to the Government’s national development strategy through numerous projects aligned with the MTEF Sector including the Liberia Nationally Determined Contributions through the Swedish International Development Agency relative to environment and biodiversity. The Swedes have also funded the work of the ODI’s Budget Strengthening Initiative (BSI) in Liberia since 2014.
