MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia recognizes the financial difficulties private school teachers are experiencing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which intensified in the country earlier this year. The government gathers that some owners of private schools, including faith-based schools, have been unable to pay their teachers and faculties since February 2020, owing to limited or no tuition payment. This is the Government’s way of assisting private schools and their teachers prepare for the resumption of normal school activities. Private School Systems are also required to submit evidence of the last payment of withholding on income tax to the Liberia Revenue Authority. Monrovia – The Adaptation Fund Board on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 approved US$ 9,592,082 for the implementation of Liberia’s proposal to build climate resilience in the cocoa and rice sectors in the West Africa Country. The Adaptation Fund is an International Fund that finances projects and programs aimed at helping developing countries to adapt to the harmful effects of climate change. It is setup under the Kyoto Protocol of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The “Building Climate Resilience in Liberia’s Cocoa and Rice Sectors” Project, which was advanced by the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia (EPA ) and approved by the Adaptation Fund aims to address key climate vulnerabilities in agriculture and water resources management in the rice and cocoa value chain, and hence contribute to immediate and longer-term development and resilience needs of poor vulnerable smallholder farmers in Liberia. EPA Acting Executive Director, Randall M. Dobayou has lauded Adaptation Fund Board for the approval of the Building Climate Resilience in Liberia’s Cocoa and Rice Sectors Project which according to him would bring some relief in the agricultural sector amidst the impacts of climate change which is negatively affecting the sector.

MONROVIA – The National Executive Committee of the Congress for Democratic Change, with immediate effect, suspends the membership of CDC Bong County Chairman Victor Wisseh for ‘Violence and disruption’ of an official party program held in Gbarnga over the weekend. This decision arises out of an official complaint of 29 September 2020, accusing ‘ Mr. Wisseh of leading a gang of young people to attack…while having a political rally for Sen. Henry W. Yallah at the Chief Compound Public School, resulting into physical violence and wounds’. Mr. Wisseh is also suspended from the party’s Bong County Chapter Chairmanship pending the outcome of a Grievance and Ethics investigation. At the same time, the leadership of the Coalition for Democratic Change condemns recent allegations of violence in District-10, and wishes to clarify that neither the CDC nor (any of) its leaders was involved. Mrs. Glassco noted that NaFAA shall specify conditions for the placing on the market of fish, fish products and fish feed, monitor possession, import, export, transportation, selling, receiving, of fish and fisheries products, test and issue sanitary certificate for all fish and fish products leaving Liberia. BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa – MNG Gold and Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC) have smuggled a huge consignment of ammonia nitrate—the chemical that caused the devastating explosion in Beirut, Lebanon last month—into Liberia for mining. The big bags of ammonia nitrate are guarded by eight armed police officers of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU). But the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia, the government office that supervises the import, export and use of chemicals, said it was unaware of the ammonia nitrate. Importing a chemical without the consent of the EPA is a crime under the Environmental Protection and Management Law of Liberia. Some of the 1,250 kilograms of ammonia nitrate in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
