The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that six Sahary Bank officials were sent to jail by Tripoli Criminal Court in conspiring to defraud their Ain Zara branch of LD 1.5 million. The sentenced bank officials were the former Ain Zara Branch Manager and the Electronic Clearing Officer, who both received an eight-year jail sentence. They were also fined LD 1.725 million – of which LD 876,000 were received. The Head of the Current Accounts Department received a four-year sentence. The Head of the Remittance Department at the bank’s General Administration received an eighteen-month prison sentence.

Debdeb to be reopened after agreed security requirementsRegarding the Ghadames Debdeb border crossing, Al-Hamal confirmed that work is underway to reopen the crossing after developing and equipping it according to the security requirements approved in Libya and Algeria, and after coordination with the Algerian crossing authorities to open the borders in both directions. The reopening will have a positive impact on the economy of the two countries by reducing the time taken to transport goods from Algeria through Tunisia and from there to Libya and vice versa. Well-equipped service facilities to be establishedAl-Hamal noted the readiness of the general plan for the modern Ghadames land port, which the Organisation for the Development of Administrative Centers (ODAC) was assigned to implement. The Libyan Supreme Council of State elected a new leader on Sunday, with Mohamed Takala replacing Khaled el-Meshri. In the first round, in which 129 out of the 145 members of the Supreme Council of State took part, el-Meshri received 49 votes and Takala 39. As neither of the candidates received the votes of 66 members, a second round of voting was held. In the second round, Takala, who received 67 votes, won against el-Meshri, who received 62 votes. The Libyan Oil Minister, Mohamed Aoun today had the first working meeting with the organizers of the Libya Energy and Economy Summit 2023 to inform them of upcoming initiatives in the energy sector.
