Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Alexandria in Egypt served as transit points between Dhaka in Bangladesh and Benghazi in Libya for Bangladeshi nationals, European Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson said. "There are indications that the routes used to reach Libya from Dhaka are direct connections between Dubai and Benghazi or Alexandria and Benghazi," Johansson replied on behalf of the European Home Affairs Commission. Engerer's question was prompted by a MaltaToday report earlier this year that revealed Frontex intelligence on how Bangladeshi migrants are being smuggled aboard charter flights into Libya where they get onto boats to reach Europe. However, a day later the EU placed Shammout on its sanctions list, calling him a "leading business person operating in Syria". Cham Wings, which does not operate to EU countries, remains subject to US sanctions and pressure is building within the EU to follow suit.

Three weeks ago, General Haftar backed a proposal to set up a new rival interim government to challenge the GNU in Tripoli. Last week, threats emerged from the east of another oil export blockade until the distribution of oil revenues is sorted. It’s always been about control of the oil and oil revenues, with Haftar’s LNA maintaining the capability to physically block oil exports, and Tripoli maintaining the capability to control oil revenues and how they are dispersed. Haftar has issued a clear ultimatum: Come up with a fair division of oil revenues by August or there will be another oil export blockade. We are now in a situation in which General Haftar’s LNA has been mobilized and prepared for action, while “talks” are apparently being undertaken by both sides on revenues.
TOKYO - Oil prices rose on Friday on support from tighter supply amid issues in Libya and Nigeria and easing U.S. inflation, which markets hope may bring an end to interest rate hikes in the world's biggest economy.Brent crude futures rose 27 cents, or 0.3%, to $81.63 per barrel at 0028 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 35 cents, or 0.5%, to $77.24.U.S. consumer prices rose modestly in June at the smallest annual increase rate in more than two years as inflation continued to subside. "This comes amid signs that recent cuts to supply from Saudi Arabia and Russia are biting," it added.Saudi Arabia and Russia, the world's biggest oil exporters, this month agreed to deepen oil cuts in place since November last year, providing further support to crude prices.
Two oilfields in Libya have shutdown amid protests over the detainment of the former finance minister, raising new concerns about political instability. El Feel was the first to stop, as protestors moved into the facilities, followed shortly after by Sharara. It noted “continued abductions, arbitrary arrests, and disappearances of citizens and public figures by various security actors in Libya”. Boumtari was angling for the top job at the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), replacing Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir. However, the Sharara and El Feel protests do not involve him.
(Corrects Brent price unit in second paragraph to 'per barrel')By Shariq KhanBENGALURU : Oil prices fell more than a dollar a barrel on Friday as the dollar strengthened and oil traders booked profits from a strong rally, with crude benchmarks recording their third-straight weekly gain. A stronger greenback reduces oil demand, making crude more expensive for investors holding other currencies. "While oil prices are likely slightly overbought in the very near term, touching the highest levels since early May, the bias appears to be for a grind higher," Haworth said. Oil prices gained nearly 2per cent on a weekly basis, after supply disruptions in Libya and Nigeria heightened concerns that the markets will tighten in coming months. Separately, Shell suspended loadings of Nigeria's Forcados crude oil owing to a potential leak at a terminal.
Brussels is unaware of investigations into criminal groups using Syrian airline Cham Wings to traffick people into Europe, European Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson said. But she did confirm that Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Alexandria in Egypt served as transit points between Dhaka in Bangladesh and Benghazi in Libya for Bangladeshi nationals. However, a day later the EU placed Shammout on its sanctions list, calling him a “leading business person operating in Syria”. Eastern Libya is governed by the House of Representatives and Haftar, both of which are not recognised by the international community as the legitimate representatives of Libya. With migration route along the western shores of Libya practically being stifled, most migrants reaching Italy are now leaving from the east, or from Tunisia.

Khaled Al-Mishri, chairman of the High Council of State, has accused Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh of direct responsibility over the travel ban against members of his council. Five members of the High Council of State have been reportedly banned from traveling at Mitiga Airport today. In a recorded statement released via the High Council of State’s Facebook page, Al-Mishri said he’s holding the premier responsible for the safety of his council’s members. He said the five members were stopped at the airport while on there to board a flight to Turkey for a work mission. Al-Mishri also sent a letter to the Attorney-General, urging to open an investigation into the incident.
