A total of 17 Indian youths, mostly from Haryana and Punjab, who were held captive in Libya for six months returned home on August 20. The youths were received by their families at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGAI). Libya’s Central Bank on Sunday announced its reunification after being split into two for nearly a decade due to the country’s long-running civil war. The bank in a statement said it has become a "unified sovereign institution" after a meeting in the capital Tripoli between Central Bank Governor Saddek El Kaber and his deputy Maree Raheel. "This is a crucial milestone in enhancing the performance of this vital sovereign institution, as we remain committed to integration and bolstering transparency and disclosure measures adopted by our government," Prime Minister Abdulhamid AlDabaiba said on X. The central bank signaled its intent to move toward reunification in January 2020 as part of a peace progress after a ceasefire, and instructed professional services firm Deloitte to help with the transition.
